Bought my first RBA on friday. Didn't want to spend a lot of money at first so I picked up an AGA T2. This was a lot more difficult to put together than I thought. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I didn't expect to fail so many times. I've built probably a total of 8 coils since friday night and I was having a lot of problems with hot spots.

Turns out I wasn't wrapping my coils tight enough. I started experimenting and on this last coil I made sure every part of the coil was in contact with the SS wick. The first thing I noticed during testing is that my hot spot on the positive leg was gone. After poking around a little bit to get the coil to glow evenly, I decided it was time to drip some juice on it. The coil didn't glow at all with juice on it. Perfect. So I got all excited and filled the tank. IT WORKS! It ohms out at 1.6 on the provari, so I've been using it at 3.6 volts. It's working pretty well.

I want to push it harder, but I'm afraid of popping the coil. How high would you guys dare push a 1.6 ohm coil?

I'm very happy to hear you were successful! Definitely, your own trial and error is the best way to learn. When posing a question like the above, its good to include wire gauge. However, your vape is going to taste like burnt cat turds long before you pop a coil. So, turn it up! Meaning, turn it up by increments to find your ideal voltage, and don't be afraid of popping coils. BTW, your original post described hot top and bottom legs with nothing glowing in the middle. This is not indicative of an overly loose wrap.

I use 30ga on the Provari and coil to 1.5 ohms. Most of the time I keep it at 4.0v - 4.2v seems to be the sweet spot with me on most juices. 30 and 28ga is pretty durable, as long as it's wicking you shouldn't have to worry about poping the coil, you'll probably hit the Provaris limit well before that, just adjust to taste. Might want to run a tank or two through it a bit lower first and let the wick break in good.

That sounds like good advice. It's wicking pretty good. Originally I filled up the tank about 3/4 full, and now it's a little less than half full. I think I'll just stick at 3.7 volts for awhile and adjust it up as I get more confident with this thing. It took me so long to get one working, that I'd hate to break it the first day.

I wish I knew what wire gauge I am using. I bought it from my local brick and mortar store and it just came on a little spool in a vacuum sealed bag. No label or anything. It's a tiny spool. I heard you can buy 50 feet for like 6 bucks on ebay, so if I need more, thats where I'll get it.

Congrats!

Got my first successful coil going today on my AGA T2 as well! These things are awesome! I used 28 gauge with a 3/2 wrap and it came out to about .6Ω. Put it on a mechanical mod and it's vaping like a dream. I've never vaped anything like this before. LOADS of vapor and flavor. I will definitely be looking into higher end stuff now... anyway, just wanted to share the joy! Congrats and good luck with future coils. It should only get easier and easier with time I assume.
