So I've been vaping full time for a few months now, using a VV/V3 and MVP2 with about 8-10 different tanks with the stock coils, and after doing a tonne of research and taking the plunge today, I've gone and ordered a bunch of stuff to start getting into coil building and, ideally once I'm proficient enough, sub ohming too. Here's what I've ordered today, any comments, tips, advice welcome as always :)

Mechs:
Anyvape Caravela
Hcigar Stingray

RBA:
Kayfun Lite Plus V2 Clone

RDA:
Hcigar Tobh V2

Batteries:
AW IMR 18650
AW IMR 18500
Sysmax Nitcore i4 Charger
Battery case

Kanthal D Wire 0.25

Coil Jig (Coil Building Tool)

I still need to pick up some surgical cotton and butane torch, but otherwise I THINK I'm about set to start building one this gear arrives.

I always read that building your own coils and wick is in a different league taste and flavour wise vs stock tanks, but me being pretty new here in Germany I don't know anyone else who builds - in fact apart from 2 workmates who I've recently converted, I'm the only one I know that vapes, so I guess there will be countless YouTube vids being used for reference and general building tips :D

If anyone knows of a good link that could possibly explain the reasons/uses for different sized wire/silica that would be useful.

Also if anyone knows the lowest resistance the mechs mentioned above will fire with, just so I know, that would also be great to know.

Now looking forward to my kit arriving and delving deeper into this weird and wonderful ever expanding world that is vaping!

Before sub ohming make sure you have a working ohm reader, and an ohms calculator. You also need to know your batteries continious amp output and compare it to your ohms law calculator's results and make sure they are IMR batteries.

It's the not the mech you should worry about, it's the battery AMP limit..I thought most AW batteries only have 10 amp limit..

just to be on the safe side, you might not want to build anything below .7 ohm build on your Tobh or KFL, or invest in some higher AMP batteries.

Ohm meter?
And just FYI Kayfuns aren't meant to be used for sub ohm builds. Might want to get other wire for thee KFL.

Thanks for the tip! That's definitely one thing I'm not clear on yet, is how to know which wire to use and with how many wraps. Wifi is so rubbish at home it's like pulling teeth trying to watch videos, the forums are way easier to find the info I need.

Your weak point there is definitely the batteries. Get some good 30 amp continuous draw batteries, like Sony vtr5's

Thanks for the heads up on the batteries guys. I'll pick up some of the Sonys mentioned above. Would the Sonys also be fine to use in those mechs when just sticking for example a nautilus or vivi nova or something like that on top?

Yeah I've noticed A1 is the norm, but being impatient and just ordering everything from 2 online stops rather than multiple sellers on eBay or even FT, I rushed it and got the D :p

Will definitely be sure to source A1 in future though.

I'm not sure how it is in the States, if most B&Ms seem to carry a wide range of stock for the more advanced vaper, but over here, it's impossible to find everything you need under one roof. Pretty frustrating. I'd rather walk in, buy my kanthal, silica, even mods or clones or RBAs etc and head home to tinker. All we've got is innokins, aspires and halo :D

Rule of thumb....never trust a battery with fire in the name :D

Any battery that can handle sub ohm...like the Sony's or MNKE, can easily handle a tank with stock coil heads. Most of those are over 1.2 ohm

Good to know. I guess I've got a lot more to learn than I thought! I thought a proper battery like the ones you mentioned might blow a stock coil lol, I'm only half joking :D

Thanks Cullin! Just saw the VTC5s on steam-engine and was about to ask too [emoji56]

Yeah, I definitely will triple check everything and do my first builds as safely as possible before firing up the mod. I reckon I'll practice on the Kayfun for a good few weeks until I know what I'm doing before experimenting with lower ohm builds, or even rebuilding some of my old tanks coils etc. I've heard the deck is quite roomy for noobs.

The AW IMR 18650 2000mAH has a 10 Amp continuous discharge rating
The AW IMR 18650 1600mAH has a 24 Amp continuous discharge rating

This is why all info about a battery is important. It's dangerous to generalize by size or distributor

I just ask because from my experience at least, the journey from being a vaping noob to enthusiast experimenting with better tanks and vv/VW mods etc is fairly straightforward, but then finally venturing into rebuilding and mechs is far more daunting and there's far less information readily available, especially from local B&Ms. The learning curve grows ever steeper and ideally I'd learn in person from someone in the know, learn by doing so to speak. I wish we had vape meets over here like I've seen in the states on YT [emoji7]

I've ordered the 2000maH. I didn't realize there were differences in discharge rating, or that it was even important [emoji46].

I reckon I'll use these batteries for normal builds like 1.8 etc and upgrade them before attempting anything with much less resistance then. [emoji106]
