Finally ran into a problem that prompted me to post

Hello all,

long time lurker, first time poster. I've had an account for a while, but every question I've had about vaping so far has been answered before I could even ask so I've never felt the urge to start a thread...until today that is.

So after pulling a nice all-nighter to study for a test this morning (summer classes suck), I topped off my nautilus aspire, popped it on my mvp2 and headed off to class. I really only brought it for the walk home after the test, but as I approached the building I decided to whip it out and take a puff or two. Unfortunately, when I reached in my pocket I discovered the tank on the nautilus had shattered and relieved itself of 5 fresh ml of juice. This really took me by surprise because after all the comments I've read about how fragile the glass is, I've dropped this thing countless times around my apartment without any incident. I was wearing some nice khaki shorts and had nothing else in that pocket, but I guess my 5 minute walk to class was to much for it today, despite the countless times its made the trip before. Being in a hurry to get to my test, all I had time to do was step in the bathroom, empty the glass out of my pocket, and briefly towel off the rest, and since it was a test day and I didn't bring my backpack, stick it back in the same pocket.

After sitting in class for 2 hours like this, I came home and started cleaning it off. The tank situation itself is unfortunate, but I've already ordered a replacement. My main concern now is the mvp2. Anyone have any thoughts? Granted it was only 5ml, but it did sit in for a good bit of time, and beyond a good paper toweling and sitting it in front of a fan, I have no idea what else to do. I haven't tried to fire it yet, or push any buttons if that makes a difference. It's not an iphone and there was no toilet involved, but maybe putting it in rice? Or maybe no sleep and lots of addy have me way to concerned about this whole situation. Any help is appreciated!

TL;DR: Nautilus tank shattered in pocket, mvp2 soaked in 5ml of ejuice for 2 hours before cleaning. should I be worried?

give it a good wiping down with a dampened cloth with Isopropyl Alcohol to remove the VG/PG stickyness. Prop it upside down with the 510 connector at the lowest point to "drain" off any juice that may have managed to get into it. Check to see ( in a couple of hours) if there is any juice in the 510 connector or where it was sitting, if none appears then the internals are good to go. Being that it was in your pocket, Im willing to bet the majority of the juice is now "pocketed" ;)

And Welcome To ECF :)

I don't think that much juice could have gotten into it. If it was in a plastic bag where it could soak in it then maybe. most all the juice would be in your shorts. The path of least resistance. I would take a paper towel and try to clean the openings on the bottom and around your 510 connections. After that you might get a can of compressed air and see if you can blow any extra out.

Sorry Blaze - that had to suck (having to take a test, right?) jk. Seriously, glad you didn't get "shrapnel wounds", but bummer that you lost your tank and your juice :( I've never had that much juice in contact with my MVP - +1 on the wipe-down with isopropyl. I've heard some people dunk their electronics that have gotten wet (i.e. dropped in the toilet/pool/lake/sink, etc.) in a container of rice, but I'm not sure if that would work for the PG/VG like it does for water.

Good luck - let us know how you fare

P.S. PLEASE tell us you have a backup?

Not sure how much help this will be but my brother had a few mil's go directly to his battery, he had to open it and dry it out for safety purposes, he's an electrician by trade so he did it safe. And on my end I have broken 3 glass tanks for aspire went out and bought a steel replacement and best 10 bucks I have spent yet for tanks that is lol.

And my contribution is the story of my MVP 2 getting left out in a a pretty heavy rain!

Significant amounts of water came pouring out, and even more with vigorous shaking.

Even before I could get its replacement ordered, it came back to life and has been happily vaping ever since.

Like the others have said, yours is likely to be just fine :thumb:

Thanks for all the replies! I'll give the iso wipe down a go, but all y'alls stories of worse things happening and it coming out fine are reassuring. Fortunately, no shrapnel wounds. When I stuck my hand in my pocket the first time I reckon I touched one of the finished edges of glass. Pulled out the big chunks and the turned my pocket inside out to get the rest. And yes, I do have a backup. I worked my way up to the mvp/nautilus setup, so for now I'm rocking the iclear 30 that came with and an ego-v v3 mega, which is my go to battery when the mvp is charging.
