So, as I am still new to this (under two months since I transitioned from smoking to vaping)... at first, it's overwhelming, then it's fascinating, and like anything new, the main differences you see between device A and device B are the cosmetic ones.
It was in looking into getting a RBA that it all really clicked. I can see the engineering and mechanical differences between say the Ithica, the Kayfun and the Genesis style atomizers/tanks. I can see how the coil/wick/tank are configured and what the benefits are in some, and where potential issues may arise in others. How the configuration between wick, coil, feed, tank, airflow and power all come together.
VV/VW configurations and straight up mechanical are making a whole lot more sense to me. I knew the basics around adjustable voltage, but it really sank in in regards to how it's not just voltage being affected by resistance causing different heat, but how the whole configuration fits together, and how one style atomizer will prefer a different wattage than another with the same juice, since it handles flow, heat, saturation and airflow in individual ways.
Things will forever be different. No more liking one over the other based on appearance or simple mechanics of coil placement and wick type... my eyes have opened, and am on the next level.
