The fire button is getting stuck. It is actually pretty scary so I have stopped using it until I can fix it. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

 In pic 3 it looks like part of the battery contact is missing. Is that bare metal showing on the edge there, where it doesn't look like it's plated? If so, something broke clean off the battery contact.

ETA: That, or the battery contact is now bent at the edge of the delrin cover from mashing.

The fire button is getting stuck.

Yeah, it looks like it's getting stuck because part o the contact pin is either bent or has broken off, the button isn't hitting directly to depress it, instead it's getting "stuck" on the edges of where the contact pin broke off.

Rebuild kit easy fix.

Your button cover looks kinda low. That could be reason you have been having to "mash" it. Take it off, Put a peice of thread over the button (like a thin spacer) and then place the button cover back on once you rebuild your REO.

I can't say for sure with that photo, but you want to diagnose the "mashing" since you don't want to keep breaking pins either. :)

Rourke, if you take a look at the photo of a rebuild parts kit at reosmods.com that will also help you figger out what's wrong. That will show what a battery contact should look like. Compare it to what you are seeing on yours. (We are kinda limited here because of the size of the uploaded images.) If you battery contact looks bent compared to how it shows in the rebuild parts kit photo... that's the problem.

My button was sticking in the down position for a littel while on Saturday so I gave it a bath saturday night and on sunday morning, it seemed to be fixed. I hadn't really let it get dirty though. It gets a weekly bath and almost a daily wipe down. I'll keep my eyes on it and let you all know should this happen again. Also, my firing pin is still in good shape and I am not a masher. I know better.

Thanks. I was a masher but when I get my Reo back I will try not to be.
You're not alone Rourke... it took me a long time to lighten up on the button... it was only when I started building my own mechanical switches on my mods that I started to be aware of how much pressure I was applying beyond what was actually needed.

Button mashing is a natural reaction to a mod that fires weakly or intermittently. The solution is to clean and noalox or deoxit the mod rather than to press the button harder and harder.

It's a lesson that took me quite a few buttons (i think i melted about 4 or 5!) to realise - also, button covers make it easy to do. I don't use them at all anymore. But if you do - make sure they are fitted properly and you are gentler with them.

As a sidenote to this discussion: For anyone with a mechanical Grand which has the firing button lock disabled by pushing the detent pin into the button, this is a perfect scenario for a button hang-up. I speak from experience. Even the slightest protrusion of the detent pin or malformation of the button around the detent pin hole will hang up the button and risk a meltdown. If you choose to disable the locking function, remove the button and buff it smooth as a baby's behind or risk the consequences. Just sayin.

When I get my Reo back I am not going to use the button cover for a while until I know exactly how much pressure to use. If I use the button cover at all, I think I am more likely to mash with the button cover on.

As others have said, purchase deoxit gold or use the noalox. It makes a HUGE difference.
