The Riva has a higher voltage output. Close to about +.5v (working voltage is probably only closer to about +.3v), and is noticeable. Many people notice they can take shorter, more satisfying drags, on the Riva vs other ego models, with the same carto or atty. If you dont care about the LED battery capacity indicator, or the flashlight, grab a Riva. They're cheaper too ;) No sense buying bells and whistles, if you dont like the noise ;)

what kind of cartomizer would work best for a riva / firefly?

I'm relatively new to the vape scene and all the info out there has my head swimming sometimes.

My juice preferences lean toward a sweet/fruity vape the vast majority of the time (if that makes any difference).

Thanks
What benefit does a double coil cartomizer provide as opposed to a single coil? Does juice type make a difference?

I want to make the right decisions when I decide to upgrade from my lousy e-cig kit, to a kit that's more reliable.

I'd hate to go back to analogs . . .

Thanks

Really.. anything from Boge or Smok Tech. I like the LR cartos (2.0 ohm), as they provide a real nice throat hit. though higher resistances may be better for lighter/fruitier flavors.

The benefit of a dual coil carto, is it gives really clean flavor, just like a single 3 ohm carto, but since there are two, you'll get twice the vapor! This is nice for increasing the vapor, without "burning out" the flavor. This way you get more vapor, without having to dial down the resistance. they are really popular, but i really dont like them on anything less than about 5v. just not enough heat for me.

If I may... I recommend the Riva 510 kit for $30. Then get a pack of Boge or Smok tech cartos in the resistaance of your choice, and get one of the Smok Tech EGO cartos to try out. These are like $3 each. they hold like 3ml and last me about a week, easy. the clearomizers are really enjoyable too, but may not be as consistent as regular, filler style cartos.

I hope that helps!

I'll do a review Ty after a few months of use.

I went with the Firefly over the Riva because I wanted to be able to easily know the battery capacity at all times. It's possible to greatly extend the life of a lithium battery by not fully discharging it each time you use it. Knowing the charge level is easy with the firefly.

For more than you ever wanted to know about extending the life of your batteries, see this article: How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries - Battery University The meat & gravy of the article begins 2 paragraphs after the first graph

Essentially:
1) Keep your batteries away from extreme heat (enclosed cars in summer, sunlight, etc.).
2) Do not routinely fully discharge the battery.
3) If you can consistently fully recharge the battery when it gets to a 50 to 75% discharged state, you'll get maximum cycle expectancy and usable hours.

Dude, these things are massive. Got my shipment today.

I'm not a super heavy vaper, so these things should last me a good long while.:vapor:

Glad I bought 5 of them:D

Oh yeah, got my firefly's too. Thanks for everything Ty.

Here are two pics for reference with Boge & Smok Tech cartos side by side.
The smaller cartomizer is the Boge 510 LR
The larger cartomizer is the Smok Tech eGo Cartomizer

Thanks for that link. I've been reading a lot of info lately that parallels that. But that's very well laid out, and nice to have all in one place!

I RARELY let my batts get fully depleted before recharging. I can taste it when the wattage gets too low, and im ready for a fresh one ;)

Yeppers! They are beefy! I really like them!

I've got a smaller EGO XL/EGO-T sized version in the works. Samples are on the way to me now. pretty sure they are only sending a couple, otherwise I'd send some out for beta testing.

Being on the road not know what you have left via a meter, the LED is very nice, and never thought I would use the flashlight but day after I got mine a tornado came threw took out the power, this thing saved me a few stubbed toes

Yeah... i felt the same way. i thought a flashlight was more of a gimmick than anything else. then sure enough, i end up using them regularly. the problem is that when im using my riva or something, i gotta get up and look for my firefly for the flashlight ;)
