With the update, the wattage stays locked, even after a power on/ off cycle, which it did not before the update. Also, there's a resistance lock added, and supposed better temp control (I haven't used temp control yet). No notable increase in battery life, but that wasn't mentioned in the update announcement.

I've used mine (I have two) with 18650, 266650, and 21700 batteries, with no issues at all.

I only wish they'd make a 200 watt version. Even if it's heavy, with whatever batteries they decide, I'd buy one for sure. I've washed mine, literally, under running water with no issues at all.
