I think that there is a basic difference between 401 and 510/eGo in terms of throat hit and flavor. My wife started with a cheap ripoff 401 kit that died within a few weeks last year. When we got started on 510's, then moved to eGo's, I never knew the difference.
A couple weeks ago I was placing an order with Goodprophets and decided to get an adapter to use her old 401 attys, since they still looked OK and I thought, why waste 'em - I can always drip/dip! The adapter was a buck. When I got it and hooked up the 401 atty to a 510, it was more flavorful and smooth than anything I do on 510/eGo setups - cartos or dripping onto a debridged atty. Much tastier than a 510 in my opinion.
I guess I'm saying that the difference may be partially because the 401 atty is a very tasty vape and a little cooler on the throat than the 510/ego in the first place. An adapter would be a cheap way to find out, by putting a 401 atty on that eGo. Since that's a short term plan, I think dripping onto a standard 510 atty (2.5-3.0 ohm) on the eGo battery is the best flavor you can get compared to the 401. It just doesn't travel well or look as cool as a tank.
Good luck with this trial and error journey. Rest assured that most of us have spent a lot of money hunting down the hardware and juice that works best for us! At least you haven't sunk $1000+ on mods that are gathering dust while you keep chasing the perfect vape! Your new system is more or less the mainstream standard, so you can always sell, trade or PIF any things that you don't like right here! (And buy more new toys - the vicious cycle begins!)
