So for the past few weeks I've been vaping a bit in between analogues, cutting down just one or two a day. Today I decided not to buy a pack and see how it would feel just vaping.

Last night I had been getting a lot of throat irritation smoking 18mg eliquid (though it has better throat hit) so today I mostly vaped 11mg. I drank plenty of water, but was still getting some throat irritation.

By the end of the day, my throat felt like it does when I smoke wayyy too much- dry and irritated and almost like a burnt feeling.. It also felt like there was stomach acid coming up a bit... I don't know if that's acid reflux... I dunno, it happens to me when I smoke too much. Anyway, I was surprised to find this as a result of vaping.

I've been vaping PG... I don't really want to switch to VG as I've heard there's a lack of throat hit (which I really need if this is going to be an alternative to smoking for me) and would also have to switch suppliers. Should I drink even more water? Is this a possible allergic reaction? Any advice or just knowing someone has experienced the same thing would help!

Dunno if this helps, but my experience is that the glycerin liquids can feel a bit 'thicker,' so it depends if you're really after the sting in your throat or just the feeling in your lungs.

Any chance you're smorking tobacco-flavored liquid ('USA Mix' or whatever)? I gather many liquids will have 'tobacco absolute' in them to varying degrees, but certain tobaccos seem to leave me with that feeling moreso than liquids that don't lean on that flavoring so heavily. (I can still barely *taste* the 'tobacco,' but it can leave me with the same irritated-tastebud feeling I'd get at times smoking.. when one decides to just swell up and be annoying for 'no reason.' But I might be a freak of nature.)

I reallyreallyreally like the Johnson Creek "Marcado" and that's one of the glycerin ones, so if you'd be okay with a 'smooth' 'heavy' cigarette sensation the glycerin is probably fine - I wouldn't say there's 'no' hit in the back of the throat, but if glycol can sometimes be astringent/scratchy like a 'dry' cigarette (Luckies?), maybe the glycerin is a little more coating/'soothing.' I also notice that for me the flavoring is part of being 'satisfied'... so the complexity of the 'dark' spices there does more for me than the peach I got in higher-nicotine... As far as I know none of those have tobacco as a flavoring, so maybe getting away from the tobacco is part of the trick to not getting that 'overdid it' feeling quite so much.

[And if glycerin does come across a little too 'smooth' for you, you can always keep switching back and forth throughout the day, I guess.]

Last night, when the irritation began, I was smoking Marlboro flavored eliquid. Today it was grape, but it's true that the irritation may have begun with the tobacco flavor and was just exacerbated by the grape today..

I'm also thinking I may just not be used to the PG yet... or maybe I need an even lower nicotine level.. or maybe just get some tumms and cough drops.. I guess trial and error would be best, though if someone else has gone through this the info would help.

I'll look into the glycerin liquids - thanks for the advice!

Thanks, I have already seen that page..

I know some of what I mentioned is covered in there, but I was mostly wondering about the feeling of having "over smoked" being present during my first day of only vaping. I have quit cold turkey in the past, so I doubt that I am mistaking any symptoms that are actually being caused by withdrawal.

Acid reflux and a sore throat often go hand in hand. I get both from time to time anyway, but when I first quit smoking and started vaping it was really bad for two weeks or so. I'm not sure which was a bigger factor, but it settled down eventually. If yours doesn't (or it starts to get worse), then try switching e-liquids. Maybe a different brand, different flavor or different strength might work better for you.

While I've heard it said that VG lacks as much throat hit as PG, it's not like it doesn't have any throat hit. I find it quite satisfying and I'm the kind of person who needs to feel their vapor both in the throat and the lungs to feel satisfied. That being said, I find VG juices to be very satisfying.

If you've never tried them, don't dismiss them without at least giving them a go. I usually vape a 24mg VG juice at this point, it's usually ECOPure or ULTRAPure (regular flavor, not menthol).

A side note, my first bottle of E-juice was a 11mg bottle of ECOPure and that had no noticeable TH at all, it was very much like vaping air to me. Probably would want to stick to 18mg or more depending on how sensitive your throat is and what your nic requirements are.
