I got my first carto tank and I'm not sure if this is a dry hit I'm getting all the time, if I primed it wrong, or if the throat hit is too intense. All I know is I followed the instructions on priming it and then filling the tank but the hits I get seem to burn my throat and I'm not getting much vapor. Maybe I did it wrong? Or this carto is a dud? if I turn the wattage all the way down on my itaste it doesn't burn but there's very little vapor. I'm using the 2ohm cartos from smok that I bought with the ibtank. I've never had a carto tank before so not really sure what the "norm" is on this. Just wondering if this is normal or if I should trash this carto and put a new one in. I don't want to waste time but at the same time if this can be fixed I don't want to trash it either. Thanks!

Pre priming, as in dropping juice into the carto, won't hurt, but can lead to flooding, so I don't do it. I start at low power and work up until I hit the sweet spot. I do think coils need a little low power vaping to break in, so I stay low for a little while...
I put it in the thingy until toe top starts to get wet, usually a few twists for half-ling sized cartos and more for the xl.

Exactly what happened to me. Burned my first carto maybe because I didn't prime it well enough. My second was good then dryed up and was also burnt. On my third I decided to open up the 2 pre-drilled holes a little so I got my trusty homemade hole punch (hammer and nail) and made the holes just a bit larger. That was the key. I should add that I vape unflavored juice at about 60%PG/40%VG and go thru 6-7 mil per day. I now have a proper punch, so I'm all set up. I've been doing great for 5 weeks using the larger holes.

Wow, first off I have to give props to all of you who have jumped in to help out. i know ECF is a hotbed of folks who love to help others but it doesnt always filter down to our own forum so I wanted to let you all know it is much appreciated.

Kinggirl, somehow i am thinking princess but then my mind tends to take tangents. Along with the suggestions above I would add trying low power and working your way up. I dont know how long you have been vaping but it can be harsh to even a smoker getting used to the different delivery of nicotine. If thats not the case then I would certainly lean towards improper priming. The priming is certainly the key aspect of getting a good vape on a cartomizer tank. As Grim noted along with that is flow, you need to adjust either your vaping style or the wicking ability of your cartomizer to find that balance that is needed.

Keep at it though, it certainly is worth the effort and once you find that balance its like all of the effort goes away and you just vape. Just Vape is a pretty good tagline, someone is probably using it but I tell you for me thats what cartomizer tanks are... no messing with things, no surprise WoW hits, Just Vape.

I didn't do anything with it yet - still have the same carto in a Halfling. I turned the power all the way day to 6 watts on mvp2 which is the lowest setting. I get some vapor but hardly any flavor. when I gradually turn it up to 7 watts, its starting to taste burnt? Almost like I'm tasting dry cotton so I'm guessing the rule is throw this one away and start over. :)

Rocco my friend I do appreciate it. On our end we will continue to do everything we can to help folks along the way by making top notch goods available at a price that works for both us and the customer.

Kinggirl, yes it sounds like you have burned the cartomizer and once that happens there is no going back. I do truly hope you get the priming part down, this is the key to starting.

You have to imagine it as the liquid is what keeps the coil from gettin too hot. As long as the liquid is on the coil the energy gets pulled off as that liquid is transformed into vapor. If the liquid isnt there the coil flashes to red hot and the filler material cant handle that so it scorches and that taste doesnt go away.

Treat the cartomizer right for those first few minutes and it will repay over the coming weeks.

I would try fresh myself. The thingy methos of pre-priming is fool-proof. It's my favorite way to get it ready. I generally fill the tank up, drop it back in the thingy, twist until I danged near flood it (you don't need to go that far, just until you see it look like a slushie drink on the top). Then I top off the tank again.
