Hi all! Only reason for posting this is to show off I guess. Just a bit proud of myself, and no coil building friends within a 100 mile radius to show it to :p

I've been researching on how to create my own clapton wire for a while now and since receiving my new variable speed drill from amazon, I was finally able to attempt it. I gathered a few tricks from 3 youtubers in specific. Twisted Messes, RiP Trippers, and someone else I can't remember (Thanks random youtube guy!)

After my first 4 attempts, it now takes me a maximum of 5 minutes to make a 1 foot perfectly straight clapton wire to do my builds with. Straightening the wire is the most important part before attempting to wrap the smaller guage wire around it. If there's enough interest, I can shed more light on this.

So this build is 24AWG Nichrome80 wrapped with 32AWG Nichrome80. Stable at 0.16Ω in a Mutation X atty on (and only used on) a Barbaric mods parallel 18650 unregulated box mod with 2 Sony VTC5's.

Enjoy!

Nice Claptons! I'd like to give it a try sometime but my two drills spin too fast. They work fine for twisted and that's keeping me happy for now. I can't really justify buying a third drill just to wrap Clapton wire. Although I have been brainstorming for while now how to build a simple jig to manually spin a length slowly while pinching the outer wire into place.

just so happens someone has found a way and i'd say youd be able to use your fast drills>> http://forum......................../t/the-clapton-tool/16731

Very nice! When I made mine I twisted a strand of 26 gauge and a strand of 28 gauge together and then spun 28 gauge around that twisted wire. It worked quite well and was fun to make. Maybe I'll make another one today! Thanks for the inspiration! Making coils is my favorite part of vaping. My GF doesn't understand why I make one everyday haha

Sweet looking build fractalsauce! How's she vape? Wicking material?

She vapes hot and fast. A juice DESTROYER! 6 drips on each coil and I get 4 3-second vapes if I'm lucky :) Fantastic flavor with ginormous clouds though! As far as wicking, rayon ... all day on drippers. I save the japanese cotton for my tanks ;)

I am right there with you FleetFoxes! My GF thinks I'm in too deep lol. But hey, to each their own and she respects my choices so it's all good in the end. She once called me "Vape Nuy the Science Guy"...I can hear the theme song now :D

Very nice :toast:

Maybe a meet is in order, I'd venture to guess that jaxgator and I are within that 100 mile radius.

I live in Mandarin. Off Old St. Augustine Rd. about halfway between I-95 and I-295.

I was thinking about this exact same thing, only twisting 2 28g strands of nickel and then Claptoning (my new word of the day :D) 30-32g around that.

Yeah, I figured that beast would go through juice at a blazing speed. I'm with ya on the rayon for drippers and JOC for tanks. ;)

Thats awesome! Ive been eyeing clapton coils lately. What is the inner diameter of those claptons? I plan on picking up some 30g kanthal tomorrow to wrap around my 22g nichrome.

These are the claptoned on my mX v3, 2x26g nichrome 80 & 1x 24g kanthal wrapped with 34g kanthal. Never got a direct reading on my ohm reader, but it registers and fires on my sig 100w, which has a limit of .15ohms so I'm assuming they're anywhere from .15-.18ohms. They're so tasty :)
