I'm doing my first cloud competition this Friday and want to win obviously lol. I built a sleeper coil down to .20 ohms and it was producing lots of vapor on the first few pulls but now it isn't. I can't seem to get the wicking right. Vapor is shooting out of one side but the other side has barely anything at all. They are glowing at the same time, from the outside in, so i don't know what's going wrong.

Any help is appreciated!

I agree, a picture or two is really going to help here :).

The coils are heating from the outside in? If you mean they start glowing from the legs first and you're using contact coils you've probably got some shorts between the coils and need to pulse until the coils glow from the center first.

Sounds like a wicking issue for sure if they are heating as you say. Organic cotton or what? More info and pictures will always help.

As another member here always says in regards to these types of questions.... If there is no picture, it didn't happen!

Yeah the wraps are a 6 wrap 24g sleeper on a 1/16 bit.

That was a really helpful post :nah:

I love sarcasm :thumb:
Hey OP think you can get your hands on some rayon wicking material? That stuff will keep my hottest coils nice and juicy for long lung hits.
Also kinda looks like your coils are not looking the same. That may not really make much of a difference though.

But if it was me I would wrap a couple few more and try to make them as consistently alike as much as I could.

I try to make my builds like mirror images. Both sides looking as much alike as possible in every detail including the wicks.

sorry I don't have any other advice to give.

Good luck at the comp and most importantly be safe and have a ton of fun.

try and tidy up the coils. looks like you may have some overlap on the ends. and in the first pic, bottom coil looks like there is a longer wrap it looks like wire sticking out. they should be uniform and tight. i know the sleeper isnt the easiest thing to wrap...maybe try true duals. easier to make the coils more alike.

It's too bad the pictures are so unclear, but I think I can see enough for now.

I don't know how good the other guys are going to be at the competition. If they are good they'll have all coils pretty much exactly the same. Same leg lengths, same wrap configuration, shape and contact between coils. Best I can see, your coils are not the same in all these aspects.

If I were you I would make new coils. I agree with bigmaaark that the sleeper setup is harder to build than two separate coils and IMO using two will not make any difference in output.

Also, at 0.2 ohms you're going to discharge your battery really quick. For the competition you'll want to use them fresh off the charger. Every drag you take will lower the voltage a bit for the next one. Get a feel for how fast the voltage drops by checking with your DMM regularly after a full charge before the competition. Be careful not to run down your batteries too far too. With these low resistance builds the performance drop off can be harder to read because there's still a lot of vapor at low voltage.

Also try different amounts of cotton and see what works best. Keep track of the voltage though. Better wicking at 3.9V will not be noticed if you are comparing it to wicking that's not as good at 4.1V.

Good luck with it :thumb:

Yeah I'm just gunna make new coils. That was my first attempt at a sleeper. This is also my first time going under .4 ohms. My 2nd coil is all janky, that sleeper is really hard lol. You don't think 2 coils will make a huge difference compared to one sleeper? Performance wise.

Regardless thanks for the help

You're welcome :)

I used to vape dual coils in a Trident all the time, but I've never tried a sleeper. IMO as long as you have good contact in the positive post it will make no difference in performance. I think coil accuracy is much more important too.

From the pics, how do you think my wicking is? Do you know any other styles?
