So ive got 3 genesis style attys sitting around my house that i may have used one time each... ever. I haven't touched much else aside from drippers sincei started using mech mods but i thought id try one out for once. Nothing nice or expensive, an AGI and 2 RSST attys. Rebuilt the AGI with some .8 ribbon and ss mesh last night and finally got it to work (kind of) and took it with me as my all day vape today on my Atom mod.

Now for the issues.....
It worked flawlessly all last night. No dry hits and no hot spots whatsoever. Only issue was weird flavor. Now today is a completely different story. Driving to work i nearly coughed up a lung on the first hit i took. I thought maybe i hadn't tilted it enough but after another hit it was still awful. I checked it out when i got to work and it is riddled with hot spots and basically just sucks.

I have had all bad luck with basically every build ive tried on one of these style atomizers and im wondering if its work trying something new. How is the vape compared to a kayfun? Im tired of dripping all the time and id like to try something new.
Any suggestions? Should i keep trying the genny style builds or should i splurge and buy something new? Let me know what you guys think, im perfectly content with dripping, id just like something a little more convenient for driving, going out, etc...

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely much more devoted to my RDA's and fun coils of the sorts. I may just have to purchase one of them. Not a big fan of clones since the last atty clone i bought was absolute junk. Now the question will be which one to purchase....
The clones... at least the ones I've tried of Kayfun versions, have gotten pretty good - from the lowly chromed brass "Rocket" to the more up-scale EhPro and the top of the line Kebo Russian 3.1 & Russian 91%, the latter of which is less a clone, and more it's own, high quality RBA... that happens to be Chinese made.

I will have to take a look at those. I have seen the Russian before but I am not a fan of the finish on it. I much prefer the Kayfun finishes. Thanks for the info! I will definitely need to check some of them out. Maybe ill start with a rocket and see if its for me considering they are pretty cheap.

I have 5 gennys. I switched to cotton wick and twisted wire. They all work perfect and last a long time with unflavored juice. I tried mesh, cheese cloth and silica. I find cotton very easy. Rip tripper has some entertaining and mostly informative videos.

I tried the auto drip method like rip trippers did in his video and it just kept burning cotton. I could not get it to wick properly. I tried loose light amounts of cotton and thicker rolled cotton but it seems to always burn. Ive thought maybe it was because of the holes are too small in the AGI for it to work, i could be wrong though...

KFL buzz reminds me of the 510 buzz. Every body went crazy for the 510. I got a load of 510 gear and will probably get a KFL. The 510 never clicked with me. I had several 510 attys, batts and chargers that I just gave away. My old RN4081 atty was superior in my book as was my later M401. I probably would have been killed if I typed the above sentence about 3 years ago.

After installing dry loose cotton wick, do not prime it. Instead, fill the tank or well w/ your eliquid. Wait. Look at wick and coil. If wet then your wick may be good. If dry then you have a problem.

I have not seen that vid yet so you got one on me.

The two most reliable genny setups I have are as follows:

SS mesh with Ekowool sleeve
SS rope wrapped in ss mesh

Havent ever tried SS rope but ive attempted to use the ekowool sleeve once. I must be rolling my mesh funky or something. Ive heard solid and ive heard like a straw. Although neither have worked for me yet...

I ran mesh with cheese cloth on half dozen genny builds.
It worked good w/ geny tilt.
Cotton ball wick works better for me.

mesh wicks are tricky, the wick needs to be firm in the hole and the coil needs to be wrapped with very even tension through the whole coil. i know on some of the cheaper genis the post can move when screwed on or when bumped, this was something I have seen mentioned several times with the agi's. if the wire tension changes or is moved or the wick can easily shift around it will be never ending problems. add in your using ribbon which is even more fussy. i like ribbon for drippers but i gave up on geni's. heat and expansion, uneven wraps and tension all drove me crazy.

there is a learning curve and it can be frustrating. but when it works right it kicks a**

And this is why I put the gennys away... although BJ43 and sniffles work with nickel mesh, not so much as a capillary device, but rather a liquid retention aid - may cause me to drag them back out again... now that I have a lovely little sheet of nickel mesh in front of me. ;-)

@crazyarms... pics go a long ways here when trying to work through problems. There are a lot of folks that can give you better feedback that way...

I have tried a few set-ups on my RSST with mesh and the best I have found so far is a 28g 8 wrap 1.4Ω 5/64" macro coil w/ mesh... The wick is setting in the coil semi-loose and is fairly easy to take out and put back in for easy maintenance....

I used nothing but mesh in my genesis attys for months. The I discovered micro coils and cotton. For me, mesh in a gene was only good on a mech at .8Ω but with a micro and cotton, I can build my coils with higher resistance and use them on my regulated devices and the vape is just as good without having to worry so much about positioning and leaking. The trick is to tuck the cotton (that comes out of the top of the coil) back down into the wick hole.. sealing the hole.. then the other hole can't leak. I didn't want to get rid of my 2 DIDs and wanted to be able to use them..micros and cotton have changed my vape life. I've put away all my mesh and doubt I'll ever use it again.

I had this problem originally too, the solution ended up exposing the hole the cotton sits on. As long as even a fraction of the hole is exposed and not completely blocked off, it wicked superbly on every tilt. I evolved from that point to rolling a loose wick of cotton that ran underneath the coil, snipped in the "front" and leaving around half an inch or so in the back that curved up (think of an L shape where the cotton is making contact with the coil on the bottom as well as the backside). This made it much easier to keep a part of the hole exposed and would suck up enough juice for a good hit, though I would pretty much re-tilt before every hit for the most part.

For the last week or so, I did the same coil setup but ran a loose cotton wick through the coil instead, with a considerable amount of wick just resting all over the deck like you might do in a dripper, with every hole open. In this setup, I tilt to flood that deck a bit (my aga-t2 holds the juice well since the top part holds to the device with o-rings), with much more cotton wick around to suck in juice, it lasts for a bunch of hits between tilts, and I've been happy with this.

When I built coils that look like yours the wick speed was too slow to keep up. I'm using 5/64" to 3/32" coils at the moment.
