I spent the last 30 minutes building a coil for my protank2. First build ever. It was bubbly, tight, and finicky as all hell but i built it myself. And the flavor was damn good. It died (i killed it, im not sorry) after about 10 minutes, popped an e2 on my provari and decided just to rebuild it.

Im am hooked. I have a rsst and a kayfun which should arrive today. So i know what ill be doing this week. :)

EDIT: so you dont have to scroll. My question for this build has become. 30 gauge kanthal is thinner than 28 gauge. If i make a 10 wrap microcoil with 30 gauge and 28 gauge. Everything else is identical which will have the higher resistance?

Yah, i hear some of you guys can rebuild a coil in under 3 minutes. (apparently 2) Thats sick, took me about 10min per attempt because i seated each coil i wrapped and checked it out.

First was way high. Over 3ohms. Never got down to Rips 1.8. My last was around 2.2ohms. I was using 30 gauge A1 kanthal from Temco and he was using 28. So i thought maybe i was doing too many wraps but i know that wasnt it for the last one. So i dont know what happened there. I even used the same drill bit. Maybe my coils werent tight enough. Thats why i posted the pic, i was wondering if it shows enough to get to the bottom of this mystery.

Edit: saw post after i started writing this one

Oh wait am i an idiot? 30 gauge is thicker wire, so it has a higher capacity for voltage ie less resistance? I think i had that backwards. Was thinking thicker meant more resistance.

damnit, ive confused myself. im going to go sit in the corner and think this through

Lol, it can get confusing, especially since wire gauges work backwards.

Thinner wire has a higher number, so 32<30<28 and so on.

The thinner the wire, the more resistance it has to current flow - look at it like water going through a pipe, you can pour water faster through a 10" pipe than you can a 1" pipe.

And to answer the question you posed in your first post, all things being equal, the coil wrapped with 30 gauge will have a higher resistance than the coil wrapped with 28 gauge.

28 gauge is thicker than 30 gauge. The thinner the wire the least resistance.

That looks like a wicked sweet coil to me! Nice job! Maybe it popped because it was too high and touching the top "chimney"? That's odd that it burned out so quickly. Mine look just like yours, 7 wraps of 32 gauge around a 1.4 mm micro screwdriver gives me about 2.3 Ohms. I made a 28 gauge coil for a kanger head, 10 wraps and it came out to 1.3 Ohms, too low for my liking on my MVP2.

It was the chimney :) i had it too high in there, its why it was so finicky. If the chimney was all the way down i got a 0ohm error or whatever its called. After 3 adjustments, when that e2 popped i just decided to do it right. But it was a great learning experience, and got a little vape out it :)

You sir are my hero. Thank you, that is a perfect explanation and its going in my vape notes.

What do I win for guessing the right answer? :p

When I make a coil for a Kanger head I leave it on the micro screwdriver and hold it down in the "valley". Once I have the insulator and pin in place I slide the screwdriver out! That way the coil is lined up right where I want it and it's never to high to touch the chimney!

My Kayfun came!!!!

photo 2.jpg

hmm wont let me attach the good picture i took of it. :(

Spent about 15 minutes building this, took me two attempts on the coil. Once again using organic boiled cotton for the wick. Came out to 1.4 ohms on the provari. But my ohm reader measured 1.6. Burn in? Eh, vaping great, truly so far best vape ive gotten.

Edit: been on it an hour, still going strong. seriously hoping its not beginners luck

Trust me, you'll eventually be at the point where you will almost be able to do it blindfolded. And good to see that ohm meter!

How ya gonna keep 'em on the farm when they've seen Las Vegas? :D Now that you're into the Kayfun, there's no going back. Trust me.

Congrats on taking up the build gauntlet. Vape strong.

Lol, been to Vegas, it scared me. ;)
