All of the years I have been here I have always used cig a likes. The talk of mods kind of scared me and seemed very foriegn.

I could really never see myself using a mod. Then my friend came to visit and she had an I stick ..which did not seem so bad.

But still I used my cigalikes and smoked analogs. During recent months my son,who goes to Hookah bars, kept telling me what much better gear I could get.

Then last Friday he came home with a Epic SMPL.. Had me try it and said he was buying me one for my Bday. (which is also his Bday)

So today he brought me to the local B&M (my first time ever in a B&M!)

I was very leary about going to a B&M based on some of the stories I have reaad here.
Like was my 43 yo self going to walk into a business with a bunch of 20 YO's who could not rub two brain cells together to explain anything?

I was very pleasantly surprised!!!!!!! Not only was it a mixed group of employees and customers... everyone was happy and cheerful!!!
It was a tiny bit cloudy but not over the top. Just a little bit and it dissapated quickly.

The customer service was TOP KNOTCH!!!

The person helping us answered every stupid question that I had (twice) He went above and beyond to be professional and show me how to build a coil .. even though that is a long way off for me.
He assured me that any questions I had or help I needed to just let them know. Call or drop by. Covered all of the safety issues that should be covered.
Made a huge point to talk about safety with a mod.

So a big shout out for Vapin Lizard on HWY 64 Bradenton FL.

As a side note I am touched that my son did this for me.

Did he explain the safety issues with the SMPL mod needing you to use a topper with protruding center pin?
Bet he did; did you know most mech mods don't have that problem? Most common mech mods have adjustable center pin.
You can screw on the topcap from a typical mechmod directly onto your tank and leave it there like its a hybrid adapter.
The SMPL just cuts a corner at the expense of your safety unnecessarily.

The SMPL mod is a disaster waiting to happen; apparently they're being pushed out onto unsuspecting new vapers.

When I got m Magma today (my first rda ever!) the guy at the shop almost had me sold on a Dark Horse, but I went with the Magma. I love it! So glad you had a good experience! Happy Birthday!

Thanks!!! I just looked up the magma. Very nice!

Edyle, Thanks for your input. I really have no idea what your talking about when you say center pin?

Basically he explained to never take the top off while leaving the battery in. I am not sure what you mean about screwing the top cap on and leaving it like a hybrid?
I realize that I am very new to this aspect of vaping .. which is why I am here asking questions.

yeah, hybrid top caps make things a bit more complicated and "less safe" with that complication... You positive pin out of your rda must be protruding from the outer surround (talking about the bottom 510 connection that screws into the top of the mod). If your posi pin isnt sticking out far enough you should have a hard short, which will cause the battery to vent.
Also, dont swap attys without first losening the button almost all the way or taking out the battery - if the new atty you are puting on has a longer 510 than the previous, you could endup puncturing your battery - which is no good.

Personally, I prefer hybrid top caps... it's less fiddly (adjusting pin to atomizer then to battery) and its allows the mod to be shorter.

The center pin is the pin in the center.
It needs to be separate from the metal around it or else you get a short on your battery and you battery gets very unhappy.

This is what a real hybrid connection looks like.
In the pic you see the center pin surrounded by a black insulator separating it from the outer metal.
The center pin makes contact with the top of the battery.

Mine does not look like it is totally flush.

So today I went to the Vape shop again because my coil was looking pretty gungy and the taste was somewht icky.

Although I had watched a Youtub about how to clean it myself.. I did not have any cotton to replace the old cotton. (At least not any that is organic)

So the vape guy.. (different one this time) took out the cotton and dry burned and rinsed the coils etc..
Then he put fresh cotton in there. Added my liquid and it seemed great!
About 45 mins later I tried it and the tip is slightly burning my lip on the one side.

What can I do to fix this?

My guess is it's because of the metal drip tip on the rda;
I use ceramic tips.

Wait a minute... you went to a b&m and you weren't shoved into a corner and harassed by tattooed , obese, bearded hipsters who don't shower regularly??? You didn't witness kids blowing plumes of vapor into the faces of babies??? Nobody called you names for using a cigalike????? No teenage cloud chaser had his mod explode sending shards of molten metal into crowds of innocent bystanders??? No streetcars??? hmmmmmm....I just don't know who to believe anymore.

Thank you so much for posting a story that mirrors every visit I've ever had to a b&m. Helpful people, nice people and people that seem fairly responsible. It's a rare read around here these days. Happy Birthday, my friend, and congrats on the new gear!

LOLOL!!!! Thank you!

I'm glad that you also have had good experiences at B&M's! Even the customers are all happy and friendly. While waiting for a coil to be built or their turn at the counter we all chit chat. The age range is pretty wide as well. From 20 ish up to the 60 yo lady who was purchasing liquid for her daughter. There were two (looked to be 20 yo's) males the one was buying liquid ahead of us. But very politiely said that he had not decided on a flavor yet and offered to let us go in front of him.
The other one.. I m not sure if he was waiting for a coil to be built or just hanging out vaping but he was sittingat the table where the employee was building my coils and he also was very friendly and chatting.

I do wonder if in some of the bad stories we read if the person writing of it was already in a bad mood when they walked in or walked in jaded already against a certain age set. (AKA the 20 yo's I mentioned above, who were both dressed rather colorfully! They both look kind of like skate boarders)

My guess is it's because of the metal drip tip on the rda;

I think that would be a major design flaw. And it would have happened from the first time I used it since I have been using the metal tip since I got it. It only started happening yesterday. It happened even after I tried different tips.

That being said, I figured out the problem. I took it apart several times thinking that the coil somehow must be touching the casing.

Finally I took it all apart and noticed a very tiny piece of wire stuck on the inside of the airflow holes. My guess is that little piece of cut wire somehow got stuck in there when the vape guy was replacing the cotton.

Just learning as I go along :)

vaping on chrome plated brass didn't really start to irritate my lips until after a few days; heat on the metal tip adds to the problem.
The metal tip that came my kayfun3.1 was good though; I suspect from the feel and taste of it, it was some sort of aluminium alloy steel that the tank was made with.

Chrome plated brass? Mine is SS? I have very little knowledge about the make ups of metals.

Exactly; SS could mean a very wide variety of thing.

Steel is an alloy. It consists mainly of iron, and to the iron is added some other stuff; depending on what the other stuff is, and depending on the production process involved, you get a result which may be called steel or some variety of steel; so 'SS" which means "Stainless Steel" is some end result which has considerably less corrosion than pure iron.

There is for example "Surgical Grade" steel; ok , if you can afford THAT, then quite frankly that's the stuff to go with, I mean you can't go wrong with that;
But for our purposes with vaping, what you want is just something more like culinary grade steel, like the typical knives spoons and forks you might find that either don't or barely rust.

You'd hear also about "306" grade steel; I think there's like 304, 305, 306, and I suppose 307 grade etc.

Anyway, as far as putting stuff in your mouth, maybe you've ever used a mirror looking shiny chrome plated spoon? If you keep using a chrome plated spoon all the time, you might find that it irritates your lips over time.

Chromium is on the heavier side of things when it comes to heavy metals.

The cheap way of cloning metal items is to make it out of brass - basically it's mostly copper, but copper corrodes, so just as there is an alloy method to make iron less corrode , an that is called steel, similarly, copper is alloyed to make it less susceptible to corrosion, and those alloys are called brass (and bronze I guess); even so the brass tends to tarnish superficially, so in addition to using brass, the brass coated with Chromium to give it that silvery mirror like $SHINY$ look that draws the $attention$ of the $dollars$ in your wallet.
