Placed my first order today, from Sweet-vapes. I ordered an 18650 2200mah E-power kit, 2 extra batteries (for a total of 4), a couple of 6ml samples of different menthol flavors, a DCT, and a few other minor supplies. I still have a decent reserve of Janes Kick juice from my previous attempt (with a really crappy mini) at converting from cigarettes to vape.

I have a 30 day or less goal. Kick the sticks, reduce my risks.

It won't be the same as cigarettes, but now that I know a lot more than I did 2 years ago, I think this is going to turn out great. Wish me luck!

Congrats, xx! You need to let us know how this works out! I wonder what cartos you're getting. Be aware that dual-coil cartos, although some do like them on Ego-styles, tend to give a cooler vapor and less throat hit than you'd expect (they have two high resistance coils). If you like the vape, that's great, if not don't let them get you disappointed.

By the way, if this works out, you won't need willpower - one day you'll just realize you forgot to smoke :)

@Startle: Thanks!

@bodrell: I'll be on him like a hobo on a ham sammich!

@funkybuch: Thanks, that's sound advice. Trying too hard can be counterproductive.

@elfstone: Thanks, and I will! The order form just says Stainless XL 1.5ohm Dual Coils. The DCT is 3.5 ml, not sure of the resistance. Still fuzzy on a lot of the electrical side of things, like how volts, ohms, resistance, and watts all work together, other than LR and high voltage equals hotter and with more TH. Honestly, I think I'll prefer something that irritates the back of my throat less, which is also why the samples are 50/50 PG/VG as well. PG seems to bug me a bit, but that could be my throat needing broken in. (Wow, that sounds bad....)

Are the cartos pre-punched? If not, look for a "1/4'' self tapping saddle valve" at a Home Depot or similar - it's a very easy way to punch your own cartos for use in the tank.

Also, check out the Smoktech 1.7 Ohm single coil XL cartomizer, aka the Resurrector - it fits the DCT and will work better just in case you'll want a stronger vape.

@elfstone: Um, the DCT one should be, I hope. Crap....I'll remember that next time.
Also, who carries the Resurrector? I had a hard enough time finding vendors that had ANY E-power kits in stock. And I was going through the list, even though it was mostly east coast shops. Trying to avoid west coast, just for shipping purposes.

What's the difference between PCB and IMR?

Basically, pcb have protection circuitry which can fail, IMR are protected by their chemical make-up. That means a PCB that gets knocked around enough it can blow up just like a non protected lithium-ion battery. The most an IMR can do is get hot.

The DCT one is. But usually the whole is too small, anyway :) (vaping is full of "that's what she said")

Get the self-tapping valve. There are some dedicated carto punches around, but they are sorely overpriced.

I honestly don't know what to say about the battery types... IMR (lithium manganese) are considered "safer chemistry" because in case of catastrophic failure the resulting stuff doesn't ignite or explode. The regular chemistry ones (cobalt oxide, I believe?) go boom if they short. These ones can be either "protected" (i.e. they have an overcurrent protection circuit that cuts off the battery if it discharges too fast) or unprotected (a big no-go for vaping purposes, see the exploding e-cig stories). The story further goes that the protected batteries are just as risky as the unprotected ones because (1) you can never be sure your battery isn't, in fact, a knock-off that's not really protected or (2) the protection circuit fails silently, i.e. you only know it had failed at some point when the battery explodes...

Someone with more experience should comment on whether the E-Power's switch would protect you against an atomizer short. I believe it would, and fail permanently as a result, but I'm not sure.

The only other danger is if the battery shorts due to a defect so be wary of using a battery that suffered any kind of hard knocking around, and check the integrity of the wrapping around the battery every time you put it in. Also, don't charge batteries overnight, unsupervised.

I don't know what else to say...

ETA: ECF officials claim that all the horror stories with exploding batteries happened with PVs that had two batteries stacked. We have no way to know for sure if this is the case.

The other issue is that batteries explode / burn up on charger all the time, but not when in use. The point is all batteries have this risk - sealed / proprietary e-cigarettes, cell phones, camera batteries, RC toys etc. No going around this one.
