Hello all,

I've been off tobacco now for 2 and a half years, and have been using the Intellicig Evo since then. I recently decided to move on to a higher performance model after having some consistency issues with the components (I won't bore you with the details!)

I received my Ego-T from Ecig Wizard 4 days ago and for the most part have been really enjoying it - much more consistent, much more satisfying! I find I'm using it a lot less than the Evo so that can only be a good thing. The first day was a bit funky tasting - I guess this would be the primer they use (I'll have to remember to blow it out next time), the second day was great, good flavour and performance, and the third day started well...

However, I now seem to be suffering from a bit of a burnt taste at times.

I've tried blowing out the atty from both ends to empty it (still not sure which is best), and using a fresh tank filled up about 3 quarters. I've also tried twisting the tank to open up the hole and take 4 sharp puffs to 'get the juice going' - however none of these steps seem to fix the problem, still the same burnt taste, very harsh and dry.

One thing that does seem to work is blowing once into the tank mouthpiece - the next 2-3 inhales taste great, with no burnt taste. My reasoning is that the atty probably isn't permanently damaged by dry-burning, but it is possibly having difficulty wicking the fluid from the tank onto the coil. (I assume that blowing into it forces some liquid in, which is then turned to vapour.

The only thing I think could be the reason is that I use a 100% VG juice (Ecopure), and I've heard that PG based ones are better for tank systems. Can anyone back this up? I'd rather not change juice unless I have to as I've personally been to the lab to see it made and the testing on, and quality of the product is utterly top notch.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - and sorry for rambling! Great forum BTW

Rick

100% doesn't wick well in your setup. Try priming your atty with 3 or 4 drops before you add the tank. Add a few drops of distilled water to thin your juice to help the flow. You can also mix a ration of non-flavored USP PG to it. It will diminish the flavor a little. Just test at the lowest added mixture you can and add until you find the right one. Also remove the little "chad" from the bottom of the tank to help the flow.

As a confirmed eGo-T user, my experience is that 2 things seem to cause a "burned taste": vaping dark liquids and too much VG. For me, the convenience of the mega-tank system and the 1100 mAh battery FAR outweigh the downside of having to vape lighter liquids with less VG. Try choosing light-colored or clear liquid flavors and no more than 30% VG. That should fix your problem. Also (this is my quick fix) I tap my PV on my hand a few times if it tastes burned, to get more liquid flowing. As always, cleaning the atty, battery & all connections at least 1x daily is vital to a great vaping experience. FYI, blowing into the cart can cause leaks.... hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice, both of you! My Ego-T came with a 100% PG RY4, so I'll give that a try and see if that helps.

RocketRod - when you say prime the atty - do I try to aim nown the tube and drop liquid down onto the needle? Sounds tricky!

annac - I haven't had any leaking problems as of yet, and I've tried to keep everything as clean as possible.

Can anyone recommend a juice which might work better on a tank setup which I could mix with my Ecopure? I use the rich tobacco flavour, so something slightly sweet but a nice traditional tobacco flavour...

Thanks again!

Priming the wick is simple; just aim the drops (1-2) on the wick; it doesn't have to be perfect. Think of a dry sponge that won't absorbe well until it is damp. Same thing with the wick. I also let my cart sit on the wick about a minute before vaping, to help it absorb into the wick.

I think any lighter-colored juice with no more than 30% VG will work with your tank setup, so find a supplier where you can go in and sample some of their flavors before buying. I know there are a few shops that offer that service in my area; hope same for you!

I use 100% VG juices (including Ecopure Rich) in my eGo-C tanks because I get an asthma-like reaction with PG juices. I had a few problems with dry hits in the beginning while I was learning how to best use the eGo-C but since then it's been trouble-free. Here are my suggestions -

1. It may be that the wick is not quite positioned right in the atomizer spike. I've never had that problem but Vicky at Cignot has a short video that shows what to look for in terms of wick position and how to fix it if it's not positioned correctly. In your case it may be that the wick is a bit too high in the atty spike. If that's the case, you can just straighten out a section of a small paper clip and use it to nudge the wick a bit further down into the spike.

2. Once when I inserted a new tank of Ecopure, a small air bubble got "stuck" on the hole in the tank cap and blocked wicking. I now always flip the eGo upside down (mouthpiece down) and back up a few times after I insert a tank to make sure that an air bubble floats to the top (sometimes with Ecopure it takes a few taps on the atomizer to get the bubble to float up with a new tank). Then I take a short primer puff or two and watch to make sure that a small air bubble floats up to the top.

3. I also once had a hanging chad block the wick. Some people use the silicone tank caps and pre-punch them with a blunt 14 gauge needle (see also here and here). I sometimes use the silicone caps but don't pre-punch them with a needle. Instead I just "pre-punch" them by inserting the tank before I fill it and then use small cuticle scissors to snip off any chads.

4. I also prime new or just cleaned attys or attys that haven't been used for a few days with one or two drops of juice before inserting a tank and then do a few primer puffs until I start getting a hint of the smell of the juice.

Anyway, that's what has worked for me. I've never had to thin VG juices to get them to wick properly and I've definitely vaped some pretty thick, dark juices.

for better wicking, you might try adding 5% distilled water or vodka or pga to your juice. this will slightly dilute the flavor and nic content, but it should wick better.

i have been using a tornado-t (a totally-wicked branded ego-t) for several month and mixing my own juice. i usually follow the standard ratio of 20% ag in the final mix. but i make my own ag using a ratio 80/20 vg/pga instead of the more common 85/15 vg/water. i did this to get slightly thinner juice since i had seen reports of poor wicking/burnt flavors with ego-t type hardware.

the only time i get a burnt taste is if i am not paying attention and run the tank dry.

although, i have had to (rarely) make a wick adjustment on a piece of new hardware to correct burnt flavor.
