Hey guys! Glad I stumbled across this forum, as I have just recently quit smoking cigarettes. I smoke hookah now, but I'm going back to landscape here in spring, and I obviously can't haul a hookah around.

I've tried the crappy gas station e-cigs, and they did little to nothing for me. I need something much more powerful, and I've been eyeballing the joyetech eVic, as I love technology and I think the bells and whistles are pretty neat.

My main question is: What do I all need to get started? I know I need the starter kit here: Joyetech eVIC VV Mod Starter Kit - MyFreedomSmokes.com but what else? What type of cartomizer and ejuice should I use? I like fruity flavors and would like an extra kick of nicotine.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks! :)

Edit: I'm considering getting this plunger kit as well. Is it any good? http://www.myfreedomsmokes.com/miscellaneous/the-ultimate-plunger-kit/

I've already been touching base with the reviews and manuals for it. It's definitely an interesting device to say the least. I'd love to get a ProVari (as I'm guessing it's much better?) But an extra hundred bucks it a bit steep at the moment.

Any suggestions on which cartomizer or liquids? I have no clue where to begin with the cartomizers and don't know which ones are the best and which ones are compatible with the eVic.

Edit:

I'll think the best thing to start with it is a Vivi Nova, a CE 4, or a Kanger T 3 CC these are all clearomisers and for a newbie the best things to start with it.
What about the link to myfreedomsmokers, i don't know, i don't live in the states so can't tell u about it.

Vivi Nova looks great man. Thanks for the input.

Welcome to ECF.

I don't usually recommend tanks to newbies....but the Vivi Nova is fairly easy to fiddle with. In your case, working outside for long stretches, you'll have to have a stack of cartos handy or a tank. You can do BOTH. It's not a bad idea to have backups. That goes for devices and chargers and batteries (the actual cell) too.

Nic strength and PG/VG ratio vary a lot by personal preference and also some are more sensitive to PG and/or VG than others. I'd try 24 mg if you were a full favored smoker, or maybe 18 if lights. That's totally ball-park though...that varies a lot too.

Get some samples, different strengths and different PG/VG ratios. I'd avoid high PG ratios if you can....often leads to wicking problems and messes newbies up until they figure it out. So maybe 75 PG /25 VG ratio. This stuff varies so much per your personal reaction.

If you're sure you want the "extra kick" of nic...go 25 mg. That's a good starting point.

EDIT: Wow...lol. when I started typing there were no replies. lol.

Get plenty of heads for the VN or spare cartos. And a few spare batteries too... you don't want to be outside in the middle of nowhere with no power!

AttyPops, thanks man! I'm a fiddler, so if I can't get something working right I will eventually. :p

And I didn't even know what a tank was until you mentioned it, so I'm learning on the way. The only thing kind of holding me back right now is the proposed ban/regulation of vapes. It'd be just my luck that the day I receive this awesome thing there will be a nationwide ban on it...

Don't get too worried about it right now... lot's of nay-sayers. It may come to pass, but it may not. Also, you can check out DIY juice later and get a 2 year supply. Don't get into it too fast or it's just "life in the fast lane...everything all at once" and it's too much. You don't even know what you like yet.

That said...I started with DIY :p. So it is doable. I did it to save $$$ though. Still got some standard juice so I knew what the differences were.

Get extra heads. You can use standard ohms...like around 2.3 ish. Don't throw the heads out even if they die (they can be re-coiled later). Maybe get a metal tank too...more durable. They sell it for about $3.00 or less as an add-on.

And Guzziman mentioned it 1st (the vivi nova). Credit where due. I type too slow. lol.

Try the vamo I have heard the evic still has some issues.

I've got issues too, but I still seem to function alright! :p

But what kind of issues are we talking here?

EDIT: And thanks Pops. I'll try not to take it too fast, but if bills start flying around congress, I'll start buying juice by the barrel! :toast:

DOUBLE EDIT: And thanks to you too, r77r7r. I'll check it out.

You guys are really awesome and helpful. Much appreciated!

Mostly the (what max amps/watts?) thing. Also some User Interface changes I think. (I don't have one).
There's a lot of talk about hacking the software to get the watts higher. Maybe a hardware issue. 1st model run type of thing.

If you don't mind buying a 1st model year car... you won't mind buying this. My guess. I didn't say anything since I don't even own one and am not an expert on it. Don't want to poo-poo an OK device.

I max out my wattage at 8 watts or less anyway. So it would work for me. Those using dual coils need twice the watts. There are plenty of VV devices around. And they all have pluses and minuses. So...shop around.

I can't recommend one site over another. You'll have to see reviews and consider your options. I'd try to avoid knock-offs. I will tell you I purchased mine here:

GotVapes Vision ViVi Nova™ V2.5 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

The full sized one (3.5 ml) with an extra metal tube in case the clear plastic one cracked for some reason. And extra heads. Or you can also look for Kanthal A-1 wire (36 ga) and silica wick or even stainless steel mesh (# 500) if you want to rebuild the heads when they burn out. That's why I said "Don't throw the parts out" when they die. You need to keep the dead heads.

Just make sure they verify that it's authentic and see reviews for the vendor. I provided a link so you have a comparison and can read up. You can still purchase from the vendor you quoted.

    :)
