Hello,

I am brand new to vaping. I just got my first PV yesterday. I went with the KR8 after reading many reviews and comparisons here and other places online. Here are my initial thoughts. I'm sure all of this has been covered many times over but this is just my take on things after day 1.

So when the package arrived, I could not wait to try it. I opened it up and attached the cartomizer that came with the starter kit to one of the (partially) pre-charged batteries and went at it. My first reaction was WTF? It tasted terrible and produced zero vapor. I tried a few more puffs on that cart with similar results. Now mind you, the included cart was of unknown flavor and strength so I had (and still have) no idea what kind it was. So, I thought I would switch to one of the prefilled cartomizers that I got. I attached a RY4 cart and went at it again and again got no vapor. What I did get was a coating of liquid on my lips which was not pleasant. At this point, I was pretty disappointed but I decided to move on.

I attached one of the menthol cartomizers that I ordered to the battery and gave it a few primer puffs. That carto started producing vapor right away and tasted pretty good. So, I was back in the game. I worked on my draw technique over the course of the next few hours and now I am getting good results from the menthol carto. I also charged my spare battery and a full charge helped things along as well.

The starter carto that came with the kit seems to have been dry. So, I added about 5 drops of 555 liquid that I had ordered as well. That got the cart producing vapor but it still tastes nasty. Maybe I burned the cart by dry firing it. I don't know.

I worked on the RY4 carto that I tried and blew out some of the juice. After that, it started producing vapor and did not slime my lips. However, it does not taste as expected. The flavor is described as caramel or like caramel with vanilla ice cream. That is not what I taste at all. It tastes like sweetened tobacco to me. I checked a few sites and they all show pictures of caramel or ice cream. Maybe it is supposed to be like caramel flavored tobacco? Regardless, I don't care for the taste so I will probably sell those once I can post in the classified section. I also don't care for the 555 liquid that I bought. But that is my fault. I am a menthol smoker so I should have stuck with menthol. I will probably sell the 555 as well.

So, here are my first impressions that hopefully will help other noobs.

1. Charge the batteries. If you open your kit and start using it right away, it may work. But, you will get better results from fully charged batteries.

2. Prefilled cartos can give mixed results. If one isn't working, try another one.

3. Buy a flavor you are used to for starters. If you are a menthol smoker, don't buy a regular tobacco liquid etc.

4. Use the search feature here on ECF to find ways to correct issues like carto is too full or not producing vapor.

5. Press the button 1 or 2 seconds before you start inhaling. (For auto batts, I guess a primer puff would do the same thing) Then draw slow and steady for 3 to 5 seconds. You will feel and taste the vapor once you are doing it right.

(Note: I am not affiliated with the following companies)

I ordered my original kit and cartos from myvaporstore. They sent everything Priority Mail and it was really fast but they are in NY and I am in PA so the package did not have to travel far. I would probably buy hardware from them again but I am going to try other cartos.

I just placed an order with vapor4life for cartos. I ordered their premium and CoolCarts to see if I like them better. I ordered blanks with some menthol juice as well as some of their prefilled menthol cartos. We will see how that goes.

Ideally, for me, I don't want to mess with liquid. I would really prefer to just buy a supply of prefilled cartos and switch them out when they are done. I know that the liquid is cheaper, but, I prefer the convenience of just tossing the carto. I read a lot of posts saying that vapor4life and vapornine had the best cartos so I decided to try those.

If anyone has recommendations for good prefilled cartos, please feel free to post.

Welcome and congratulations on entering the vaping world! I think you give a lot of great information on what to expect to Noobies, and I think many will find it very helpful. I also had originally bought a KR8 from v2cigs.com, and to be honest was too impressed at all by their product (hardly any vapor, to get any was like sucking cement through a straw-needless to say not what I thought would help me switch from analogs) and their prefilled cartos were not very good (menthol) at least not what I was looking for being a menthol smoker myself. So I ended up buying 510 mega battery (which lucky for me one battery really can last me almost a full day, even though my kit came with two) from Jason @ electronicstix.com and a whole new world opened for me. With my 510 I find that I get plenty of vapor and not giving myself a headache trying to get a good draw, and it could be the prefilled cartos he gave me, but I think they are pretty good. I have found it hard to find a wide variety of flavors and mg levels as far as prefilled cartos go for both KR8's and 510's. However, with the 510 I do find for flavors I want that buying the e-juice is just pretty much mandatory and to my surprise pretty darn easy, and I was very against having to refill, but the condom method makes it a cinch and does not take hardly any time at all! So not trying to be a buzz kill on your new e-cigs, just thought from one noobie to another we would be able to swap some helpful tips/info.

Hi TypeO
After a few rather costly detours I found this forum and read up a bit. I was already into this quite a bit and was looking for something more akin to what I'd seen on videos. I, too, went with vapor4life and got 2 XL batteries, some pre-filled, some blanks and some juice. Turns out I don't care for the 555 either or the other tobacco flavored juice I bought. I do, however, like the cinnamon the cappacinno and the peppermint. I've also noticed that pre-filled cartos take a few hits before they start to work well.
Filling blanks, via the 'condom method' seems to work really well and is realitively painless.
My next step is to buy a mess of sample sized juices and find out which ones I really like.
Hang in there

I have been using my kr8 from vapor4life since August and I still really enjoy it. I'm not real concerned about battery life because I have 3 batteries and a PT that I rotate. I always keep a spare charged battery with me and have a PCC (charging case) to keep charged up all day. Running out of battery power hasn't been an issue. Taste has...

Here's what I learned:

The pre-filled cartos taste like crap. Very chemically tasting. Go for juice and blank cartos and you have endless options. I have ordered juice from vapor4life, vapor bomb, and viking vapor. Viking vapor is my favorite so far for 2 reasons: they are cheap, and they have a lot of options. I'm a menthol smoker and I absolutely love their creme de minthe. I really like vapor4life's nuport juice too. Those are my go-to's for all day vaping. Vapor bomb was good and I will order from them again, but when I placed my order with them I was a total noob and didn't know what mix would work for me, and I just don't think I got the right one because I didn't get much throat hit from the ones I got. I ordered a higher mix of VG, next time I'll go half VG half PG or higher PG. But their flavors were good.

The condom method is quick and easy, but sorta messy. Now I do a modified drip-method. Using the vapor4life blank cool cartos, I just pop the white cap at the mouth end off using the metal part of a binder clip (those black and metal paper clip thingys--squeeze the metal part out of the black part and keep it in my carry case!). Then I drip anywhere from 10 to 15 drops into the carto. Replace the white cap and wallah! I don't get any backfire, or juice in my mouth, and no leakage from the bottom either.

The biggest bonus of using blank cartos is that you can fill them with anything you want and carry a bunch of different flavors with you so you can vape according to your mood! I like french toast in the morning, bubble gum in the afternoon, and coffee mint at night. In between I vape a ton of creme de minthe.

Good luck, and vape on!

I switched to the direct drip method (as you explained above) about a week or more ago (from the condom method), and it's so much quicker, easier, and much less messy. Can't believe I used the condom method for about 3 weeks or more. Now, there's no excess juice to get rid of or wipe out of my mouth and no mess whatsoever to clean and no juice wasted. Just pop off the white end cap with a large paper clip, drip 10 to 16 drops, put end cap back on, and vape.

The best throat hits are when you order 100% PG and then add just enough VG (Glycerin from Walmart by the rubbing alcohol products) to get the vapor you want, without diluting the flavor too much. This is what works for me, that is.

By the way, the best throat hits I've gotten are from the KR808D-1 passthrough and the KR808D-1 Premium cartomizers (from litecigusa.net). I get throat hits every single time, unlike when I use the eGo 1000mAh batteries and the other passthroughs I've bought - and more vapor and flavor than anything else I've used.

I have read through all of the responses above and wanted to say thanks to all who responded. This is the main reason why I like this forum. Everyone seems to be willing to help others and gives good opinions rather than just bashing what they do not like.

I have ordered some new juices and blank premium and cool cartos from vapor4life. I hope to have them Saturday or Monday. I hope those will cure some of the issues I am having with the prefilled cartos.

Until then, I still have some analogs left that I am mixing in with vaping. Tuesday, the day I got my KR8, I had 14 analogs. Wednesday, I had 8. So far today, only 5 and will end up having 1 more probably. So, all in all, I think I am doing well.
