Hi all,
My first post on this forum, I'm just gonna state some things to get off my chest and my experience with e-cigs.
I've been a closet smoker for over 20 years. Never got up to a pack a day but stayed at about 1/2 pack.
I'm a doctor.
I say closet smoker because I always tried to hide my smoking habits. From my family, co workers, patients etc. Always smoked in my car and never in public. Always had lots of gum mints etc. I'm sure people knew because of the awful smell on my clothes and breath. My wife knew but didn't really say too much except I should quit.
So I tried to quit, many times, cold turkey and the gum.
A friend showed me e-cigs a few weeks ago and I quickly ordered one from smoking everywhere, then I ordered one from njoy the newest one, and a cheapo 20.00 chinese one.
So here I am 1 week later smoking the e-cigs not smoking an analog for almost a week and loving it!
I have read alot of posts on this board and have learned a lot.
I like the njoy and the smoking everywhere and have ordered a few penstyles from recommended vendors on this forum.
I also ordered some liquid from JC.
I really hope I can stick with this and eventully ween myself off the nicotine for good.
From a health professional getting things off his chest, please encourage kids and teens to never take up smoking, its too hard to quit!
Thanks for listening.
Doc
PS I personally dont think ecigs are 100% safe, but I'm sure they are not as dangerous and regular cigarettes.

CONGRATS Rmasu! Keep it up! I know what it's like to be a closet smoker...I've been hiding it from my parents for years and I'm a grown ... man! lol...nonetheless, I'm having quite a bit of success myself with the E-Cig...much more than I ever had with the patch or gum....I realize I haven't "really" quit smoking...but at least I'm not smoking thousands of chemicals, tobacco, and tar!

I agree with you that e-cigs are not 100% safe, but choose to see the good in them rather than worry about the possible negatives.

Again, congrats, you are one of many that seems to have turned the corner using E-cigs!

Welcome, doctor. My son's friend's father is a doctor and also a closet smoker. I believe the only one who knows that he smokes is the guy who sells him cigs at the drive thru. I know the worker, and he let it slip that a local doctor swore him to secrecy about his habit. Don't beat yourself up too much...doctors are allowed bad habits also. I'm glad that you came to the forum and will bet that your experience with both smoking and now with e smoking will make you a better doctor...one who can understand the issues of smokers trying to quit and also one who might suggest trying vaping as a safer alternative to smoking.

Hey doc, good for you! You came out of the closet but are choosing a "healthier alternative" ;-). I'm in Honolulu and have been e-smoking for 3 weeks. So far so good- my pack a day habit is cut in half and will be dwindling more, I know it. It's funny that you mentioned telling your patients about smoking and surgery. I had surgery last week and was so stressed out that I smoked analogs before and after :-/. I know it can prolong the healing process, among other things. This may have explained my massive swelling and bruising. Anyway, good for you- now you won't smell like an ashtray anymore!
