Hi Everybody!

Firstly, a bit about me and where I'm at:

I'm a 26yo from Australia who's been smoking cigarettes for about 10yrs who's tried multiple times to get off the cigs. My best attempt was 1 month off whilst on Champix two years ago - I stopped because of the extreme nausea and horrible nightmares. Since then I've tried vaping as an alternative to cigarettes a couple of times, once using it as a substitute for 90% of my smokes for about 3 or 4 weeks - I gave up due to the fact that the 2 or 3 cigs that I was having kept me hooked. Then I had about 2 weeks just on the vape which worked brilliantly until I lost my charger and had to buy a pack before I could get access to a new charger overnight - game over.

I've been travelling around Europe for the past month with my (non-smoker) fiancée. Due to the fact that we'd been spending pretty much 24/7 within 10 meters of each other I started to get some pretty clear indications that my smoking was irritating her more than usual. Understandable right! So I went and bought myself another pen type vape and some 18 or 24mg liquid and ran out the last of my cigarettes. I was really surprised at how well the vape was satisfying the nicotine monsters in my head. Then about a week or so later we got to Amsterdam and I needed to buy a pouch of tobacco for the purpose of well, we all know what happens in Amsterdam. By the time we'd left Holland I still had half a pouch left and I was back to 50-50 vaping-smoking (ie. whenever I could get away from the fiancée I'd smoke and whenever we were together I'd vape). The cig's ran out a three days ago and I've been vaping since with little to no desire to get another pack of smokes - I cannot stress how incredibly strange this has felt! Never before have I reverted back to vaping straight after a cig binge and felt ok with it.

So I've decided to give them up. For good. I know that vaping's the answer, and I'm on the way to being nicotine free.

Unfortunately my pen style vape has a bad habit of bending open in my pocket and spilling juice all over my pants, and from what research I've been doing of a night time everyone seems to suggest getting a higher power, Mod style unit if I want this to work more successfully. I spent a bit of time today in an eCig store and ended up walking out with a joyetech eVic-VTC mini and 3 bottles of 6mg juice.

Problem is now I'm mighty confused with all of the options now presented to me!!!

3 different atomizers - "normal", Ni and Ti - difference between the three, and which im most likely to get a better experience from
Power setting, temp setting, ohms, amps....

So the incredibly helpful lady in the shop put the "normal" atomizer in, explained how to change the parts and told me not to change from the power setting with this atty and not to exceed 4.5v or i'll burn out the atty.

I've tried youtubing and also doing a few searches through the forums but all of the videos and posts assume knowledge of how all of these factors will effect my experience.

I spent the afternoon on the 6mg juice and decided it wasn't strong enough so now I'm half 6mg/half 18mg which seems much better

Also, due to the unit being charged via micro usb can i use my phone charger cables - standard high quality micro usb. or MUST I use the one that came I the joyetech box?

I was wondering if anyone could help by shedding some light on the above topics or could send me some links to threads where it's already covered.

Cheers,

TheBeardedBarman.

This is great! :)

I rarely charge my eVic mini VTC using the usb; not a big fan of this system.

However, if I did, I marked the Joyetech cable so I know. Does it matter? Probably not, but Joyetech take more care than some over their accessories.

So much so, that for 2 years using a genuine Joyetech wall (to usb) adapter was just about the only safe option.

You should see the poor quality of some usb cables. The Mini Cloupor one is overpriced at even 14 cents.

Hi and welcome to the board. Those are good questions. The "standard" atomizer uses a resistance wire, probably Kanthal which is a brand name for a patented NiFe alloy. It must be used in wattage or power mode mode. The Ni and Ti atomizers are "Temp Control" atomizers using a non-resistance wire-- Nickel or Titanium depending on which one we're talking about-- and must be used in Temp Control mode. I am not familiar with your mod, but there's probably a separate selection for TC-Ni and TC-Ti. There just about has to be. The difference is simple: in power mode, you set the watts or volts and the mod applies exactly that to the coil the entire time you have the button pressed. In TC mode (either one), you set the watts (usually) and the temperature (always) you want the wire to be. When you push the button the mod applies either the watts you set or the machine's maximum watts to the wire until it comes up to your set temperature. After it gets there, the mod starts pulsing the power off and on until you release the button to keep it at the set temp. You have two different types of TC wire in your atomizers because some people like one better than the other. Most (but not all, this is vaping) people think Ti wire tastes better than Ni. There is another type of TC wire in common use-- several different alloys of Stainless Steel. I have no idea if your machine will accept Stainless wires or not. Those are the kind I use because I think they taste better than Ti or Ni, and they have the additional benefit of being able to be used in either TC or power modes.

How it will affect your user experience is too personal to tell. Some swear by TC, others wouldn't touch it; ditto the reverse. The great advantage to TC is you never burn a wick through insufficient juice; whether you run out or it just gets gunky and won't wick any more. This means you don't get dry hits. Another big advantage, for persons who like gourmet juices with complex flavor profiles, is the temp of the coil wire makes a difference in the flavor. It's nice to be able to set it to match your juice. That's probably a bit deeper than you want to get into it as a beginner.

You should be able to use any USB cable that is connected to a power supply making the required mAh to charge you battery. Sometimes they get picky, due to quality issues. You are unlikely to damage anything by trying, it just won't work. Given you bought the VTC model, it has a removable battery. I prefer removable battery mods myself, and I find it a lot easier to carry a spare battery than to charge in the mod. I also think a stand alone charger takes better care of my batteries than the charging board in the mod can because they have better electronics. Batteries are expensive and dangerous if mishandled; taking care of them seems a good idea to me. Something to think about.

Good luck in your journey, Hit us up again with any more questions you may have.

Thanks so much for the advice and explanations... it's cleared up quite a bit.

So i've been playing round with the Kanthal atty and the power mode settings and im finding that about 10w settings is giving me the satisfaction that im wanting, but the flavour was a bit tinny.

I've just swapped to the Ti atty, at about 400f and 45w and the flavour seems so much fuller and a little sweeter. It just seems to be getting bettter and better the more I tweak.

Again, thanks SO much!! (from me and the anti-smoking fiancee)

I usually vape up to 5.2 v without burning out anything.

Alrighty then, a few more things. The regular/normal coil is probably kanthal as mentioned. It is probably above 1 Ohm. Your Ni, and Ti coils are both below 1 Ohm. You will find that you will use MUCH less juice with the normal coil. You'll also prolong battery life the higher the Ohms you use, or wattage, as your watts are higher the lower the Ohms.

Here's what you should remember and adjust your vape accordingly.

If you're going to use the normal coil (higher ohms/less wattage) you could probably stick a higher percentage of nicotine as you'll not be using much juice.
If you prefer using the Ni, or Ti coil, you could use up to 3x more juice than with the 'normal' coil, and so a lower value nicotine will suffice because you're going through so much.

Personally I prefer SS, which is also an option on the Mini.

When you mix your 6 and 18, now you've got a 12 mg/ml nicotine value. It's as easy as that to figure out.

If you still have thoughts/wants to smoke, I'd suggest you increase your nicotine level to curb the cravings.
