My name is Mike, I'm from NJ and this is my first post here. I'm trying to get off of cigarettes. I'm day 3 in with the vape pen without any cigarettes, but about 50% of the time the exhale is killing the back of my throat ON ALL THREE, low, medium, and high settings, it's extremely dry imagine like nails to a chalkboard but the back of your throat.

So I went to a local vape store and the guy told me this was happening because the wick was at the top of the atomizer, i listened to him and got a different glass one for 15$ its a KangerTech Mini Protank II.

Turns out the new one makes it even worse.

The atomizer is a KangerTech Mini Protank II.
& the battery half is that of a mistfix mist kettle.

The mist kettle is my first vape pen ever, got it 3 days ago and went with the cheapest one i could get because i didnt know if i'd like it enough to give up the cigarettes. Turns out I like it more than cigarettes now I just need to solve this problem.

Somebody tell me why my smoke is so dry and killing the back of my throat after every exhale!?

between here and there
Welcome to ecf. Glad to hear you are giving ecigs more than a passing glance. Increase your liquid intake. Vaping will dry out your mouth, throat and nose. Also, the pg could be harsh on your throat so maybe trying a mixture of pg/vg will help. But as long as you vape, please have a glass of water or your favorite beverage at hand at all times. See if this doesn't help.

Since you've already tried lower nic levels it may be irritation from pg. try getting some 100% vg or as high as you can find. Average for most stores is pg 60 vg 40 or 70/30. I personally have to have those numbers reversed or i have problems incl migraines. Even thenI have to break it up with some 100%vg here n there but that's only bc of the migraines. I've always had them but to much pg is a trigger for me.

Most certainly agree with everyone else. I find that 100% VG is not only smooth hitting, but you can still get a good TH with 12mg juice. Whatever ratio you're using, start looking at some higher VG ratio juices such as 80VG/20PG or even 100% VG.

If you need help finding vendors that supply we can help you there too.

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations and don't give up! It's going to be worth it. This is my experience and only my opinion. I agree with the others who have mentioned that a higher PG to VG ratio could be the culprit and a good place to start. Try a reduced PG level. You may also experience a sore throat for about a week or so when you first start vaping. Every body is different, sore throat clears up quickly with some, takes longer for others. You might also try a VV battery like the ego c twist. Other variables could be poor quality juices, atomizer ohms, VV battery, different tanks, wicks, etc. For me, finding the right ohms and VV was key, and I had to spend a little extra money trying to find what worked best. For example, I found that the I-Clear tank with 1.5 ohm atomizer running between 3.5-4.0 voltage(depending on the juice)on my itaste MVP battery and my ego c twist provides the best flavor and vapor without getting a dry or burned hit. And the I-clear provides a nice, smooth draw, not too airy. Good luck, and hope you find what works for you real soon.

P.S.--I started smoking analogs in 1973. Since I quit smoking and started vaping on Memorial Day 2013, I have saved $707 on cigarettes to date. I have spent $380 on vaping equipment and juices, which means vaping vs cigarettes has saved me $327 total over smoking so far. That's $327 in my pocket! Not to mention that during my deer hunting adventure this year, there was a very noticeable difference in my ability to walk trails without getting winded like I used to get when I smoked cigs.

I'm at the one week mark of every day vaping (2 days no analogs) and have for the past three days been experiencing a very dry lump in the back of my throat. Like having a pill stuck half way swallowed. This has been happening with everything from 100% PG to 100% VG juices. As of today I've been keeping a beverage handy as I vape and it seems to be helping. Couple puffs and a sip... Hope this helps

thank you everyone for the advice. unfortunately the best mixture i could get was 50/50 none of the shops near me have 100% VG.
the problem was actually the nicotine level. i smoke about 15 Marlboro 27s a day so the guy who sold me my first vape pen advised me to start at a 1.8 nic level. which was killing my throat like i said in this post. i brought all 8 of my 1.8% juices back and exchanged them all for .6%. i figured i'd rather just hit the vape more if .6% is too low and it's actually a much much smoother hit that i can actually enjoy. i don't know how anyone can smoke 1.8% or above!!

A couple of things may be causing your issue. The first and most likely is that you are smoking something with a high PG content. PG can irritate and is one of the things that causes the throat hit.

Another potential source of irritation is the nicotine content of your juice. Nicotine also helps to create the "throat" of a vape and high (24+mg/ml) solution can be irritating.

Finally (though unlikely to have this issue in two separate tanks) you may be getting dry hits. If your draw feels very "loose" you may be pulling too much air through your tank and as a result not creating enough vacuum to properly saturate your wick.

Please let me know if any of these suggestions hit the mark or if you would like clarification.

Thanks
