A few days ago I received the Dream, aka BT801, rebuildable dripping atomizer ordered from EmpireMods. It's a Fatty clone, made of stainless steal. It features 2 negative screws for optional dual coil, fits 510 drip tips, has a spring loaded sealed connection, and has adjustable airflow control. It's my first rba after years of dripping with disposable atties.

When I received it I was impressed by the quality. Solid constuction, a nice piece for the low price. The airflow control was way too loose, but was easy to tighten up by placing some tape over the threads. It came already built and tested at 2.1 ohms. The silica wick was pretty short; coils evenly spaced out and heated evenly.

The first vape was horrendous. All throat hit, little vapor. I unscrewed the top part and saw the coil was on the opposite side of the 3 air holes. It was easy to flip the coil over the center screw so it was next to the holes and after that it was much better. The flavor reminded me of the couple clearos I've tried; clean and well represented but with an added funny taste. I think it's from the silica wick. I cleaned it well and dry burned, and that helped a little. After a couple hours the odd taste mostly faded.

The vapor production is about medium. Loosening the airflow control so it's more airy produces more vapor, but tightening produces more flavor and throat hit. I keep it closer to the tight direction so it's about as airy as a typical 510. The vapor production is satisfactory for me, but not nearly as high as a HH.357 or some other premium disposable atties.

The throat hit is very good. Set to more airy it compares to a 901 and tighter it's strong like a 510, maybe even a little stronger. It's really nice to be able to contol that.

The taste is, well, gonna need more time with it. For the most part, it's consistant as far as representing all nuances. Need to try more flavors to make sure but it seems like it's not muting any flavor category yet. Not quite the punch of a well working premium but close enough. I would like to experiment with other wicking material.

The ease of use is just awesome. No worries about leaking. I am getting leaking through the side air holes, but that's purely user error in adding too many drops for the small wick to grab onto. I will make longer wicks when I put a new one in. The wick around the coil gets gunked up after a few hours with a NET, but is so easy to take apart, run under water, blot dry and dry burn. Nice not to have to apply my normal atty maintainance and not having to worry about dirty juices gunking up the coil. I can dry burn without worry of ruining an expensive atty. It comes off a rinse and burn just like new. I like being able to add more than a couple drops and not having to worry about flooding.

The positives give me enough reason to keep it in my rotation. The negatives are enough to want to still use premium atties also. Probably be about a 50/50 share. Maybe more since I will use most NETs in the rba. I'm excited to try experimenting with different wick material and building variations until I can get the best performance out of it.

Overall, out of the gate, I'm very happy with this addition. If I can get the performance to be up to par with a HH.357, Cisco, or Ikenvape it will take over those. The great thing is being able to experiment with coil and wick setups for just pennies.

I have a couple questions regarding this RBA that if anyone wants to field I'd be grateful for.

I had ordered 6 premade coils but can't find them for the life of me, so I ordered a couple meters of wick and wire from surevape since it's free shipping. I got 3mm silica wick and 32 gauge A-1 kanthal wire. I picked those sizes because, well, that's all they had lol. Will those sizes work well? I plain on just making a simple coil with a wick through it that I'll have pointing up in the atty. Is there a benefit to do something like looping or doubling up on the wick?

Any other wick material that you would suggest for this atty? I've heard torching a silica wick improves the flavor, can I get the same effect from a regular lighter? Any tips to improve vapor production?

For some reason I'm having trouble finding videos on making coils on silica wicks. I've found a couple basic ones but hoping to view on a more in depth video. Any leads?

And final q.. what would you suggest for the next dripping RBA that I try? My only condition is that the draw isn't too airy.

Lots of questions, answers to any of them much appreciated.

Try a Pheonix clone from COV or Bulldog from OKCvapes. They are the same thing. I use 3.5mm silica wick and 32g Kanthal. You don't need to rinse them to dry burn, just blot wick dry with a paper towel and dry burn in front of a fan or blow on it. The draw on these are actually a little tighter than I like so I drill the hole just a hair bigger. I also add a drip tip oring to the base so I can line the air hole up and not have the top piece loose. I use a butane torch on the wick and wire before I wrap the coil, a lighter will get the wire to glow but I don't think it'll get hot enough to clean the wick. Lots of videos on different ways to setup a Pheonix.

That wick and wire will work. Looping the wick allows the atty to hold more juice. I've seen videos of making a well with the wick, do a Youtube search of Fatty atomizer, I think. As for other wicking material to use, anything in the Rebuildable Atomizers thread will work. I personally use cheesecloth. If you have one wick sticking up, make sure it doesn't block your airholes.

As for other dripping atomizers, I swear by the Phoenix clone. The A7 is easier to recoil, but I prefer RBA's with a side airhole because I hate juice leaking down the center.

The A7 has a very airy draw. The center pin is adjustable but this seems to be for making electrical contact, can't tell a change in draw when I adjust it. My buddy crimped the tube below the coil and says it tightened the draw, I haven't tried it yet. The big drip well on the Vamo is because of the eGo threading, not sure how sealed it is.

The A7 is crossed off then unless I hear of a way to tighten up the draw. That's a shame, I liked the look and concept of it, but if the draw is very airy I won't end up using it much.

I hope the well on the VAMO is sealed, cause I'm sure using it as a drip well lol.
