I'm a n00b and not afraid to admit it! So, here it goes...my first time building coils...and I'm really bad with the search bar, so I apologize if questions have been asked/answered already.

What I've got:
iStick 20W & 30W
Kanger Subtank Mini
26g A1 Kanthal
28g A1 Kanthal
Japanese Cotton
Mini screwdrivers (1.4mm, 2mm, 2.4mm, 3mm, and what came with the subtank)
Ohm Meter
The "Crack-torch" as I call it (butane zippo)
Hemostats
Skizzors...wait...I guess that's Scissors
...there's an app for that...lol...I've been looking at the Steam Engine and I have an app for my iPhone.
I still need a slightly more mellow juice, so that may be a trip to the store again this week, but in the mean time...

I've wrapped one coil, but my wraps kinda sucked. 28g, 3mm, 6 wraps came to ~1.56 Ohm on the meter (said 1.6 on the iStick - didn't fire it, just checked it).
I'm going to keep practicing - can't hurt. But I've got a couple of questions.

Do I need to torch the Kanthal before & after wrapping?
How bad does it smoke/stink (my Mom is sensitive to smells so I'd have to do it outside if it does - she's still got 'chemo nose' even after 10 years)?
Does it smoke/stink when you test fire it on your mod the first time?
Is there anything that will help me perfect my wraps?
Any suggestions for finding a better juice? Using the stock 1.2 OCC coil the vape was a little too warm (cut down Kringle's Curse 12mg with 100% VG for 6mg).
Is there anything else I'm missing? I've watched some videos with more to go.

Do I need to torch the Kanthal before & after wrapping? No not really ever, You should dry burn once installed. But you can build and vape without either.
How bad does it smoke/stink (my Mom is sensitive to smells so I'd have to do it outside if it does - she's still got 'chemo nose' even after 10 years)? Ejuice can smell. Dry burning may give of a bit of ozone and if coils are dirty well, it'll smeel of whatever is burning
Does it smoke/stink when you test fire it on your mod the first time? Depends on what is on the wire.
Is there anything that will help me perfect my wraps? Practice

Is there anything else I'm missing? I've watched some videos with more to go. Nobody knows everything

As 93gc40 said, you don't have to, though torching the wire before wrapping will remove some of the springiness and torching the coil after will get it nice and tight.

How bad does it smoke/stink (my Mom is sensitive to smells so I'd have to do it outside if it does - she's still got 'chemo nose' even after 10 years)?

If you're referring to the torch, it doesn't as long as you fire it right after opening the valve. I would recommend refilling it outside, however.

Is there anything that will help me perfect my wraps?

Honestly they don't have to be perfect unless you intend to post pictures of them.
