First time trying diy E-liquid, have a couple questions on mixing.

Hi, I am going to starting making my own e-liquid but there are a few questions in my head. First off, the ratio of vg/pg. I see a lot of people mix all diffent ratios like 70/30 or 80/20 and so on. I never see just 50/50. Is that fine if I mix it like that? I ordered a nicotine base that is mixed 50/50 already. And then I ordered another base of 50/50 (no nicotine) to mix with. So, is this fine or should i lean towards having more of either pg or vg? Second off. I see people add water to their mix, mostly to heavy vg mixes. When should u add water and how much, 5-10%? would I be fine not adding water to a 50/50 mix?

I think its a good idea to get 50/50 nicotine juice if you plan on doing mixes with over 20% VG. I got all my nic in PG and the higher mg of nicotine you want in your juice, the less VG you can use. I would recommend buying the pg and vg separate, that way you can play around with the mix and find a percentage that works for you. The more VG you use, the thicker it is going to be. If you use cartomizers, that could possibly cause some issues.

50/50 mix is fine, but if you add any flavoring to those components, your juice will no longer be 50/50 as most flavoring is PG based. (Even if it has an alcohol carrier, it is considered PG for ratio calc's)

But, hey, I can't see why 60/40 or 66/34 would be a bad thing, eh?

Water is used as a thinning agent. So if your mix is too thick, add enough water to make it flow the way you need. I typically use PGA instead of water because I have it sitting around and I need half the PGA as compared to distilled water.

Don't forget to read all the stickys at the DIY E-liquid sub-forum and have fun!

50/50 is a popular blend. However I find 80pg/20vg or so works better for me for cartomizers performing their best over time, and tanks are happiest with 30% VG or 20%. If you are using carts or dripping it should not matter. And you can also adjust the flow of eliquid by adding a bit of distilled water or PGA (pure grain alcohol).

My final mixes end up being between 50/50 and 60/40, and I don't have any problems using any of my juices in Boge cartos. If I ever need to thin out a mix, I just add a bit more PG, but in the end I'm still generally at or above 40% VG. I have noticed though that the viscosity of VG can vary among vendors (i.e. Capella's VG is much thicker than Fullovscents' VG).
