When I got my eGo, I handed off my DSE 901 to my gf who has had it all week. I had ordered a USB passthrough for the 901 before I lent it to her. It had not come on time for me to try it.

Been kind of jonesing for a hit off the ole 901 since been using the eG0 so I ordered a couple of atty's for it and a couple bottles of new juice flavors. The package came today.

Immediately blew out the atty just in case..it seemed to have been clean..not like the junk they lube up in the eGo atty. Immediately filled a blank cart with a mix of 24mg PG and 18mg VG tobacco flavors and topped it up with the new cream flavor.

Yum yum! Mighty tasty I must say! All three are my top flavors..if anyone cares to know particulars just let me know..I don't care to shill, only share names and company names when someone wants to know details.

Anyway, the point of the post was that I am using a USB passtrhough for the first time as I type this, hooked up to a mac book pro. It is working well, getting excellent vapor production but just a mild throat hit. More like a lite cig. Not a bad thing, but I am used to the bigger TH I was getting from the 510 type atty and can now remember fully why I could not completely quit analogs with the 901. Just needed that extra little kick to well... KICK..if ya know what I mean.

Getting a nice consistent vape though..excellent flavors coming through even on the virgin atty. My only complaint right now is the wire. First of all the dork factor of vaping hard wired to a computer is off the charts lolol...and I am finding that the tension on the cable makes it a tad annoying. Have to line up the mouth piece to the button as it is a manual battery. Finding the sweet spot by just twisting the mouth piece..so it ends up a bit off center from the button so as to not have the device spin when I release it from my mouth. Make sense? So now as I take longer controlled drags..getting a better TH.

Overall first impression is thumbs up. Only annoyance is the wire tension on the device and how it kind of spins when I let go after dragging if I don't have the manual button and mouth piece lined up somewhat off center from each other. Guess this would be less of an issue on an electronic battery? Don't think the standard DSE 901 will be my primary PV anymore but there is still a place for it when moving on to more "powerful" devices and mods. Something nice about the mellowness of the 901. Having a constant full charge is a HUGE plus if you are a 901 user as the battery life is quite short on them.

If anyone cares to know where I got it just ask. I paid 14 USD for it with free shipping. Ordered on Sunday, 31 Jan. and arrived today 3 Feb.

Happy vaping and if you are a DSE 901 user, tired of swapping out batteries several times a day, and do most of your vaping while on a laptop, I would definitely consider a USB passtrhough device.

P.S. The cream flavor was nice for the first several hits, but it's a bit rich for more than that and wearing out its welcome. Will not be my everyday vape. That's for sure.

You might try the 901 with a LR atty.:vapor: For me the 901 is a far better atty for flavor, vapor and TH. :2cool: I have tried the 510 reg and LR atty's and they just don't satisfy any of those 3 things. :( As for the battery, I've gone to the 14500 bat. in a box mod. that extends the vape time. :2cool: I agree with the feeling of being tied down with the pass-through. I've had 2 of them and seldom use them.

Hi Nin_brokenhalo5,

I started this journey with a 4081 (cig lookalike) model, and then bought a 510...and while I got tons of vapor on the 510, I felt a loss of flavor...

After a while, I really wanted an ecig that had a whistle tip -- I just thought it looked so cool, and so I bought a 901. I must say, the 901, in spite of the recharging hassle, became my favorite. It just seems to deliver flavor and vapor. I can understand why you were jonesing for a hit off the "ole 901." :) Though I must say, it's a bit surprising since so many here on the forums seem to rave about the ego.

I later got a 901 passthru, which takes care of the battery switching and recharging hassle -- and I am very happy with it. I highly recommend a passthru to anyone who sits by a computer most of the day :)

I also recently discovered flavors other than menthol :) I'm curious as to which cream flavor you are talking about. Please let me know.

Feel free to friend me and Happy Vaping to you :)

I've heard that the USB passthrough shouldn't be used connected to a PC, and instead used with a USB wall adaptor, as they've been known to fry ports on systems. Is this true?

I'm a technology consultant and work on computers and high end servers all day. I was vaping in the server room of a client's the other day with my PT plugged into their $15K production server. When I got home and read about the possible issue with PTs plugged into PCs I was so glad that it didn't happen to me.

I'm a net admin for an ISP, I deal with a decent amount of servers and other tech goodies....

But a $15k server?!

What the hell is in that thing?

It's a VMWare ESXi Server that runs 4 virtual servers. A failure would have been a very very bad thing. Hardware-wise - It's a Dell PowerEdge T710 running dual Xeon X5680s with 96GB RAM in 1333MHz Dual Ranked RDIMMs. Storage is 6 - 600GB 15K RPM SAS drive (quite pricey). The total cost is actually much closer to 20 grand with all of the options.

I'm thinking I'll just bring my wall adaptor from now on. I'm sure the 1100W power supplies (redundant) would be able to handle the additional load but, as you say Stosh, why risk it?

Got my vaping hub after my PC kept failing to find a driver to install my 810 PT, go figure...LOL

haha. I'm thinking about whipping up a PT sans battery. Like a USB power connector that you can just screw the atty into. Maybe make it automatic. You could probably even write some software for it. Maybe bind one of the 6 unused buttons on my mouse to activate it like a manual battery. The possibilities are immense!! Why do I always feel the need to tinker with everything I get my hands on? lol

I'm new to e cigs and juices so I would love to know what juices you were refering to, trying to build up my "juice box" early in the game!

I tried a passthrough for almost a whole day and hated it

LOL, it's not a problem, just welcome to the ranks of vapers for whom 3.7v is high enough.
You can forget the expense of a VV mod, 6v mod, simple 3.7 or ego is good to go.

A PT that uses a battery like the ego, and limits the voltage to the atty would be an option,
just avoid the direct 5v full voltage PT types.

Hey webbcm127,

Do you know if using the Apple Ipad charger would work? I couldn't see why not?

Thanks,
Mark

Edit: Nevermind, just discovered my cell phone charger works great, but it's only 1 amp.

Any AC to USB charger will charge through the USB chargers for your eCig batts. Some many be slower than though.
