I was looking forward to my first Joye outing, I live in Michigan and public smoking has been banned here since May 2010. So this afternoon I went to the Olive Garden with a friend and I wasnt quite sure how to approch vaping in public, honestly it sort of freaks me out more than it would other people, just nervous that someone will get angry or not understand! Anyhow, I took some advice I found on the forums here and explained to my waiter that I had a vaporizer, and would it be alright if I used it, I didnt know they're policy. He right off the bat seemed very uncomfortable, and wouldnt even look me in the eye. He mumbled something about knowing what I was talking about, frowned, and told me he thought it would be more "kosher" if I vaped in the old smoking section. Which is sort of silly because its the "cafe" area right in front of the restaurant, the first thing people see when they come in the door. Plus it didnt make sense as SMOKING isnt allowed anyway, plus Im not a smoker in the first place. I just smiled and told him to forget about it, its cool. Ate my meal and maybe its because I've been chain vaping the last few days but I really felt the urge and when I left the restaurant I ended up smoking the last analog I had lonley in its pack at the bottom of my purse. Weird. It was soooooo gross!!! Anyhow. Thats my almost public vaping experience. My dad said I should have told the guy that I wasnt asking permission, just explaining what I was doing as a courtesy, and that it wasnt illegal so I was gonna just vape as much as I pleased. Funny stuff but Im not that aggressive. I guess vapers are grouped in with smokers, and its truly the APPEARANCE of smoking that people are uncomfortable with? Not sure, would never disrespect an establishment by vaping where it was not welcome but none the less I am quite disappointed :/

It's really encouraging to hear that you are part of the solution! Just having conversations like that is what ends up becoming the "People have been asking about this . . ." type of situations. Every little bit counts, and I think it's great that you've potentially planted a seed. I'm sure that waiter will share or ask, then more people will ask, until they will have to face reality.

Good job! Sorry you had to have a gross analog though. :)

That's a bummer, but not all that surprising. People do associate e-cigs with smoking and I can see how it would make a business uncomfortable. I
I don't think that approaching the situation in the manner that your dad suggested would have helped at all; it probably would have just ...... off the waiter. It's better to respect that an establishment is not comfortable with vaping (yet) than to turn them against it. My boyfriend works at a bar, and we've talked to the owner and explained vaping to him. He is not against it, but is worried about the reaction of other patrons. I fully respect his decision (since it IS his bar) and vape outside with the smokers.
For now, it's best (IMHO) to vape only where it is welcomed and continue to inform people about PVs and vaping. Hope you have some better experiences in the future =)

I think we should start Changing name for what we calling them and if anyone ask me what am i holding or Smoking, i just tell them that this is my eGo and is a Vaporizer and i don't smoke, i vape. If they are to say is an E-Cig or i am still smoking, i will say that e-cig are the Traditional Analog model and is a well know name to Associate with.
Nevertheless, do not name my Daring with yours together as they are not the same no doubt they have the same Function. ;P .They looks Different and they give different satisfaction .

I agree completely. We need to distinguish ourselves from cigarettes and smoking as much as possible. Vaping is not the same thing, but we need to educate the public, police, and politicians.
