Hi forum buddies,

I was most alarmed to be sent this link by a smoker friend of mine who said I should GIVE UP five pawns ejuice immediately as it has been recalled by at least one UK site after being tested for high levels of Diacetyl and other toxic chemicals....

I am a big lover of five pawns and Mystic juices and am hoping that the conclusions on the link pasted here are incorrect.

Can anyone offer any insights or opinions on this. Thanks in advance:

This is from Wiki regarding acetyl propionyl:

As a flavoring agent, it is a controversial[3] ingredient in some e-liquid products for use with electronic cigarettes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, inhalation of acetylpropionyl causes respiratory tractepithelial damage and fibrosis to lungs in animal studies.[4] Acetylpropionyl was found to cause both intraluminal and intramural fibrotic airway lesions in rats.[5] One study of the composition of 159 different e-liquid products, performed by Farsalinos et al., concluded that the use of acetylpropionyl and diacetyl in E-liquids represents an avoidable risk, and additionally that proper measures should be taken by E-liquid manufacturers and flavoring suppliers to eliminate these hazards from the products.[6]

What are Diacetyl, Acetyl Propionyl and Acetoin?

I can't speak regarding 5Pawns specifically but this subject came up 9 months ago when Dr. Farsalino's talked about 75% of custard, creamy flavors he tested were coming up positive for diketones (diacetyl, Acetoin, and/or Acetyl Propionyl). At that point in time, suppliers had not been told the truth by some flavor manufacturers and they had not spent the money to test their eliquid in the correct ppm (parts per million).

Since then, many of the flavor (and e-liquid) manufacturers have started reporting which of their flavors contain these "bad actors" (and reformulating some of them).

If you're concerned about diketones (diacetyl, Acetoin, and/or Acetyl Propionyl), you can try to avoid any "buttery, custard, creamy, rich, bakery" type flavors, and stay with tobaccos/fruits.

You can also deal with vendors who specifically list on their website whether diketones (diacetyl/acetyl propionyl) are used/possibly present.

You could DIY and only use ingredients/vendors who verify ingredients or you could try vaping unflavored. Many members here choose to vape with no flavoring and enjoy it.
