OK, now what???? :D

Seriously, though...I tried to watch Robert's Magnum video and MadDog's, but this is not the same flashlight. I got these today at Home Depot (5 flashlights for $13...how could I resist?).

From just fiddling around with it, I think I'd have to screw the head piece back onto it after all is done...as it's flared, I don't think I'd like it very much.

What do you think? Good for a mod or not? If not, at least I have 4 flashlights remaining to scatter about the house.

Looks like you can do the same thing with this one, just your switch is in the middle, as long as switch can handle the voltage. Looks like you got a lot more room to work with in the top piece. I'm going to try one but still use the batt carrier in bottom and use 3 10440 320mah AAA batts that comes in a Vapor King passthrough and charge batts useing a AAAbatt holder wired into a pill bottle jumper. I put a charger port RS 274-0251 1/8" panel mount phone jack in my last Nico Stick to charge batt so I don't have to remove batt, just slip the pill bottle jumper into charger and plug it into Nico Stick with 1/8" phone plug RS 274-0286.

I think there would be a lot of wasted space due the location of the hole for the switch. You could probably get an 18500 in the place of the battery slug (measure first before you buy any) and could replace the switch in that assembly for a n.o. momentary.
That just leaves the top to decide on. If you could find / make a cap that would screw onto that thread it could be a very neat looking mod or use Roberts favoured method, Epoxy everything,
Rewire the slug for 2 x 10440 and stick a voltage regulator in the end cap. If you can find a large washer the fit that head it could be held inside by the flange aroud the top with the atty connector in the washer
If you didn't mind leaving the old switch out, maybe fill it or just put some tape over the hole, you could get a larger/multiple batteries in there
Well you did ask :)

I picked up a few of those 3.5" at Harbor freight, they have some similar at Home Depot, 6 in a pack including 2 strap on headlights and a mess of batteries for ten doll ears...

everywhere I look lately, all I'm seeing is flashlights...they're all over the freakin' house....I think they briefly showed up in a dream last night

oh! and of course, I'm sucking on two of them right now :D

You know, I don't care WHAT I try to find locally here lately, no one has it! I was in HD this evening and I looked EVERYWHERE for these flashlights...nada!

My town SUCKS for shopping!

Well, I had to go to two Dollar Trees, but I found these...

But look at the circuit board...

red-4.jpg

There is no soldering at all...the neg LED wires are stuck through the holes and twisted together.

The pos LED wires are bent to the other side of the circuit board toward the LEDs...I assume the reason for this is to make contact with the ridge inside the tube.

So where am I going to attach my pos/neg wires to on this?

Also, a member PM'd me and suggested where I could find the flashlight I see commonly used for the mod...

I'm going to try the red one first. If all else fails, I can use the black one as there are visuals here on the forum.

All observations, suggestions, and gentle nudges will be met with great appreciation...:D

On one of my FL mods I didn't use the circuit board, I used a piece of formica cut and shaped to the size of the circuit board..

I drilled a small hole in the middle and bent a piece of wire through it, then built up with solder on both sides. For the ground, I drilled a small hole in the case and inserted a small screw to solder the ground wire to.

The one in the first post looks similar to the flashlight I got for this project. I have all the parts, I've just been lazy about putting it together.

I won't be using the original board or switch. I have a washer that will work perfectly and picked up a handfull of N.O. buttons that should handle the amps.

See, I didn't "think" the circuit board was necessary. I did not, however, know how I was going to handle the black wire.

HHMM, mine had a spring in the top center and I just drilled a hole stuck a wire through and soldered it to where the spring was soldered.

For the ground you could drill a hole near the edge of the board, cut a small slit in the edge, put it through the hole loop it back to itself through the slit and solder. then when you replace the board it will ground to the case,

Just use the board you have there. Remove the leds and solder wires to the board.
You may want to leave the legs from the leds on the outside ring in place and soldered to hold them. This will give you your ground. Solder black wire to one of these.
The centre of the board is where the red wire will go. you will probably have to build the battery side up with solder to get good contact with the centre post of the battery positive.
Just make sure that the inner and outer sections on the board are not joined/bridged when soldering or you will have a short.
As usual test with meter before connecting battery :)
