See, I didn't "think" the circuit board was necessary. I did not, however, know how I was going to handle the black wire.
Like vendo says, you can still use the circuit board, the laminate is just another alternative, you can pick samples up at Home Depot.

The circuit board ground is fine for a flashlight, but after the press fit has been compromised, I prefer something a bit more solid for an atty.

A friend gave me a flashlight like Roberts but it had 9 leds 8 in circle and 1 in center, so I took a knife and scrached through the center circuit. Did everything just like he did but used Rat Shack parts, man this thing works like a champ, awesome vapor!!!! Used a tiny screw ground and sodered + to spring. I used the original batt carrier and used 3 ICR10440P AAA 320mah batts = 10.8v at 960mah. Be careful in placement of screw ground watching out for other componets, that was a handful craming all that in!

Your math is a little wrong. It's either 3.7v at 960mAh(parallel) or 11.1v at 320mAh(series). I would assume the first because if it is the second you must be popping attys like crazy!

I dont know how to do photos but I will try to get my friend to help me get a pic this weekend but it looks just like roberts magnum detonator useing the performance tool light that hippy girl chows in 2d photo. looks like her light with a mound of jb where leds are with a tiny porshon of batt end and 510 atty and cart sticking out with tiny push button switch on side. did every thing step by step useing roberts maunum detonator vidio, GREAT MODD!

So I "thought" I needed the RCR123A batts for my flashlight mod (using the same FL as in Mad Dog's vid)...

Nope! Two of them are too long to go into the body, so it appears I actually needed the CR2 batts (I got all excited and ordered without making SURE which batts I needed).

AS I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED, it appears I have only two choices: 1) order the CR2s from China and wait/wait/wait for shipping or 2)find something ELSE to use the RCR123As in WHILE I wait/wait/wait for shipping.

So unless someone can direct me to a US vendor for the rechargeable CR2s, what would be my best bet for a casing for the RCR123As???

I'm really quite put out with myself over this...seriously. I should have double-checked before I hit the buy button!

Thanks,

Sherry

hey hippie, it's me again.

i read another post maybe here or maybe a different board where an english gent said he got cr123's to fit the FL by removing the the black plastic button housing and spring from the bottom end cap. then he slodered a .10 euro coin into the hole left beind where the switch where the button used to be.

just a thought that might get you thru till you can gat CR2s which can tak 2 weeks to a month from DX or any vendor that ships from china.

i have 2 non rechargable cr123s and a few magnums i've built so i may try this to see what we might be able to do,, a dime looks about the right size.... but by doing this we would be removing the main power on/off switch so it's not an ideal situation, but it could work as long as one rember to take extra care and unscrew the atty whn placing the magnum ien a pocket, purse, or other place where the button could accidentally get pushed. as long as the atty is not connected that wouldn't be a problem.

but the magnum and most 3x aaa flashlights needs 2x CR2 cells if you wish to retain the main button on the bottom end cap.

Do u have any 14500 AA 3.7v batts on hand? If so, wrapp something around it and put it in! Its the same length as 2 CR2s.....and...PICS of finished product? :) Been waiting to see it!;)

good point crash, the 14500 are almost identical to 2x cr2s (maybe 1/8" shorter) but a 14500 should fit in the same SCH 400 PVC tube that madog suggests using for the cr2s, and now that you mention it i know they will fit because those are the batts i put in the mags i made for my cousin and his wife.

kudos to you crash... i guess i've been awake too long:sleep:

i think they means wrap card around it to make it fatter so it does not rattle about thats what i did only needs one 14500

SNORT! You're right...I read Crash's post wrong.

I'm going to have to wait on the cr2's. Although I popped the bottom plug/switch and punched out a circle from a sheet of 16g nickel to fit the hole, there's still a space issue with getting the switch and voltage regulator into the space and still have room for the bottom part of the atty connector.

So I'll wrap a 14500 and at least get the thing working...right after I order these ^&$*@^ cr2s.

Damn.

Hippy Girl if you did the 5v reg your 14500 is not enough v to excite the reg.

I know...thanks.

I was thinking I needed the regulator if I used two rcr123a'a in the FL body with the bottom switch/plug removed. If I "did", there does not seem to be enough room in the space available to put the switch and regulator and still have room for whatever portion of the atty connector protrudes into the space.

Gonna build it tonight anyway...it'll just be 6V instead of 5.
