Just thought I'd share... Home Depot has a nice selection of cheap flashlights again this Christmas season, including a $.98 6 LED model that measures over 3-3/4". Just may be a 6V mod candidate. There is also a 2 flashlight kit reduced to $3 that includes one flashlight/laser pointer combo that has a switch on the side. It's pretty hefty, but I'm thinking that switch could be easily modded to be momentary.

Actually, I've made mods put of the $1 flashlight from there, fits a 14500 with ease, and have made a 18500 mod out of the smaller flashlight in the $3 2-pack. The big laser/flashlight, however, is a bit of a challenge: it has a real glass lens, so it seems that one would have to replace that with something that won't crack under a drill bit. These flashlights in the 2-pack are *really* nice in the quality department, being very sturdy and three pieces when unscrewed as opposed to two. As for missing the bottom switch into momentary, it's nearly impossible...I dissected the normally-closed switch, and the only way would be to remove the locking mechanism, flush/seal the original switch hole, and drill a new one on the opposite side of the switch case. OK, so it's not impossible, but more of a pain in the ... than most are willing to deal with to build a mod. I'll attach some pics of the 18500 detonators I built.
