i saw someone with a joye510, but the end of the cart was flat (kinda like the cig holders of yesteryear). i done searched but can't find them - where would i locate such a beast, or was i seeing things?

That is surprising. I believe that most Joye 510 suppliers carry flat (aka "whistle-tip) carts ...and (often) the round-tip as well.

In addition to what Don said, 901 cartridges have flat tips and they will fit the 510 atomizer sometimes better than the 510 cartridges which can go a bit looser fit with heat. I use 901 cartridges exclusively on all my 510's.
