Hello all!

I've recently decided to try some dual coils on my Kraken. I doubled up my single coil setup which was a cable rope wick and a 3/2 wrap of 0.8x0.1mm flat ribbon Kenthal @ 0.6 Ohms. Now in a dual coil configuration, you've guessed it, I get 0.3 Ohms which is a bit too low for my taste and safety. I'm using the 18650 Orbtronic PD 2900 high drain battery which has been known to be safe at 0.4 Ohms but I am going below that. I checked the battery after long chain vaping sessions and it's not even warm.

My question is... what kind of flat ribbon Kenthal should I use in dual coil mode to get back to around 0.6 Ohms or at least above 0.4 in a 3/2 wrap configuration? I tried putting 4/3 wraps on the coils which gets me to 0.4 Ohms but I just don't like that it takes longer for the wires to heat up in that mode. 3/2 wrap always fires and performs even after long periods of rest.

Thanks in advance!!!

Well it all really depends on how many wraps you use. .5 if im not mistaken is roughly equivalent to 34 gauge kanthal. I'd go with .7 MM to get your desired resistance with relatively low amount of coils. I also find the thicker ribbon a little easier to work with, though in my opinion it's a pain to wrap etc... Maybe it's my shaky hands but I just find straight kanthal alot easier to work with. I will say though if you do manage to get the ribbon coiled right, stuff does vape like a train.

So let me get this straight? 0.5 mm ribbon would get me a higher resistance than my current 0.8 mm at the same wraps? That's what I'm getting out of the replies. Guess that answers my question.

Yea, the ribbon kenthal can be a bit tricky to work with especially if you have a screw on the top of the post where you end the wrap. The screw tends to pull on the wire as you tighten it and will result in a more intense glow on the top wrap. It took lots of trial and error till I found out that wrapping the coils more loosely eliminates that problem.
