I have tried two different tanks (tank-O-Mizer from Volcano and mophead from Heathers Heavenly Vapes) Both seem to mutethe taste of the juices. The mophead is the better of the two, but when I tried my favorite juice in it, I barely got the flavor I love. Milder juices seem to have no flavor.

Has anyone else had this problem or is it something I am doing wrong?

This is normal. Dripping is supposed to provide the best flavor. The trade off is convenience... You dont have to have a bottle of juice on you at all times...

My kanger protank (having been rewicked with cheese cloth) provides me with flavor that is comparable to my drip atty. I would suggest looking into that if you want a good tank that provides good flavor.

One reason tanks seem to mute flavor is, IMO, the silica wicks. Silica is used in chem labs to separate molecules from one another. So I believe, and this may not be completely accurate, that the silica wicks hold on to the flavoring molecules more so than say cheese cloth/cotton.

Thats the tutorial with pictures showing you how to rewick a coil. This one is a t3 head, but the protank heads are nearly identical. Takes about 5 minutes from beginning to end. I just did it between posts...

Edit: Note that this is how to rewick a coil, not rebuild the coil completely. But thats not hard either. If you are new to vaping, you might want to just try the kanger protank, get its air flow modded to suit your needs, and then try rewicking the coils. Once the coil pops, thats when you need to rebuild the coil completely. But like I said, its not hard, and it will save you a ton of money. Rebuilding a head with cheese cloth costs pennys, and gives you better flavor, versus purchasing new ones at 2-4 bucks a piece and having the flavor muted due to silica. The pro side to silica is that its more resistant to burning. The cotton/cheese cloth WILL BURN if its not wet with juice. So just take your time, let it absorb the juice for 30 minutes or so before hitting it.

And above all go buy a cheap dripper! I have several (yes, I think dripping tastes better than any tank, even my SS mesh AGAs), some on the pricier end of the scale. My favorite right now? For pure flavor and vapor? A Smok RDA "Octopus" that I wrapped my own wick and coil for. It's slightly modified as well (extra airhole, replacement o-rings for a snugger top cap fit, etc.) but for $8 the flavor is VERY hard to beat.

Haven't tried cheesecloth yet but I found loose cotton fiber rolled into a wick muted flavor even more than a good grade silica. I'm still going to try cheesecloth though ;)
