Ive been messing with DIY for awhile and one thing Ive noticed is that my DIY flavors only last a few puffs when dripping. I still get plenty of vapor 10 to 15 puffs in, but flavor just dies after 3 or 4 puffs. Those 3 to 4 are good but WTF? anyone know why this is?

Just to give you an idea of a basic recipe that does this.

3ml mix - 1.5ml 48mg VG
.5ml VG or PG
12 drops PGA
20 drops PA - Caramel Candy
8 drops PA - Cotton Candy
5 drops PA - Caramel (mapley)

Try putting a drop of the PA Caramel Candy on your atty after the flavor dies and see if you can taste that?

This seems to happen to a lot of people, usually it's temporary. I have no idea what the cause is, but I'd say it's hardware or your tongue since plenty of people use the same flavors you do but don't have that problem.

I have a feeling the VG condenses ever so slightly on your tongue and coats the taste buds a little, dampening your ability to smell/taste the vapor. It could be tested by vaping plain VG a little first, then switching to another atty with 100% PG liquid and vaping that. Any volunteers?
... I believe that also explains the feeling of creaminess folks talk about.

This might explain why I end up using higher than expected proportions of flavor in my mixes; I use mostly VG. The only PG I get is what the flavor is based in. This is kind of a catch-22 since I'm trying to reduce the harshness of straight PG liquids at high voltage. I think I'll try a 50-50 VG-PG base to see if that makes any difference in how much flavoring is required. Interesting subject.

I'll also try PV's idea and switch the same flavor to 100% PG and see what that does. I'll use the same ratio of flavoring to see what happens. I'll try to do that this evening.

For what it's worth, I haven't yet experienced the issue of fading flavor.
