Hey guys, being a newbie in the DIY ejuicing world there are many flavors I have not acquired and I find myself asking the question. Can I substitute this flavor with that one? and I am pretty sure most of you have done the same. So, as a way of helping other newbies to the world of DIY I thought I would start this thread in hopes of more experienced DIYers to post and share what they have discovered.

Example:
A recipe I want to try calls for banana nut bread, but I don't have that flavor. But I do have ripe banana and acetyl pyrazin. Will mixing those together give me the banana nut bread that I am looking for or at least get me close? and if so what percentages did you use them in?

My conclusion was for 6% ripe banana with 1 drop diluted AP (AP diluted to 6 drops per 6ml bottle, then adding 1 drop to my final mix) still needs some work but I'm getting closer.

ripe banana is a powerful extract. Its all about your tastes, I say go for it and make small batches. it also will make a difference if your using your juice in tanks or dripping them in an RBA. WHen I first started DIYing my e liquid Vapingzone was a Godsend because you could get e liquid your way. Say that you like 12mg 40/60 pg/vg e liquid. They will send you 12mg 40/60 e liquid with no flavoring so all you'll need to do is add your flavoring to your bottle first, then fill it up with your VZ, 12mg 40/60 e liquid, shake and vape. Simple as that. Like if you wanted to make 10ml of Strawberry banana, I would say something like .4ml of banana and .6ml of strawberry..adjust slightly to fit your own tastes. That took all the math out of it when I first started years ago. lol, now I do it all from scratch, even make my own menthol crystals. Anyways,..Some people swear by steeping but I've found that if a flavor tastes good right off the bat steeping only makes it better but if a flavor tastes bad right off the bat, steeping usually wont help much. lol Hope this helps.

Thanks Vatic, I premix my nic bases and just add flavors. I was hoping members would post their "alternative flavors" that they have used if they were missing a certain flavor.
I use extra banana because it tends to mute down after a bit but yes, it is all about personal taste.

I wanted to try a grandmaster clone I found on eliquid recipes but I didnt have TFA banana nut bread. All I had were Ripe Banana and the AP which gives a nutty bready flavor. So I thought, "why not mix them to make my own banana nut bread."

I see so many recipes that have most of the flavors I have on hand but there is always one or two that I dont have. so I never end up making the recipe. Like custards I so badly want to try some recipes with custards in them but I only have bavarian cream. I don't know if it could be substituted. But someone else might have tried it and it would be nice to hear their thoughts about it.

Making e liquid is akin to cooking. In many ways its similar and absolutely you can substitute some things for others, will it be exactly the same? most likely no, but I'm sure it'll still be yummy. :D I eyeball most of my own mixes anymore anyways and rarely write down recipes anymore. :D Use your cooking instincts! I hope some others come along with better info for you, Good luck!! :D

Thanks, I hope so too! I think it would help more people than just me. I will say when I bought all my flavors from wizardlabs I thought I had every flavor I could ever use. I couldnt have been more wrong. LOL! Guess I will be making another spending trip over there soon! I really enjoy vaping my own creations. It gives me more enjoyment than smoking ever did :)
