that's what I do....learned the hard way by dumping lots of juice though.
Once you hit on something you like, just add the nic and the amount of flavor you need to make it the same percentage as your nicless mix.

In other words, say you use 3 ml of pg/vg for your mix and use 10% flavoring and like it.
Your nic base is 36ml and you like to vape at 18 ml (just an easy example).
If you add 3 ml of your nic base to the 3 ml of flavored nicless base (the one you mixed with flavor and liked) then add the same amount of flavoring again, you have an 18 ml nic mix with the same flavor percentage you liked before.

I can't begin to tell you how much good ingredients I dumped down the drain while I was learning. I was treating DIY like cooking and adding too many different flavors. I wasted so much until I learned that fewer is better. So yes, it is best to find what you like with the least amount of waste, especially nicotine which is the priciest ingredient. Way back in the olden days there wasn't as much help as there is now...or I was just stupider.

Smart girl, Patti! I had to think about those equations a bit. LOL

This makes total sense if I'm halving my original Nic percentage (as in your example 36 -->18) but once I start to think about it in any ratio other than that vapor starts coming out my ears. I bought 36mg nic and like to vape at 15mg/ml. Is there a way to plug this into a calculator that makes sense, taking into account that a portion of your solution is a batch of flavored "nicless" juice?

Wait, I think I got it. if I just put in my test batch of flavored nicless juice into the calculator as flavor #1 at 50% my solution I think it works out regardless of what mg/ml of nic I select as my final. Does that make sense? Am I on track?

Make a small test batch with out nic, i usually do 3 to 5ml testers. Once you get it right and have notes to recreate it, just make a larger batch using your nic base in place of some of the VG or PG. You can keep the test batch for future tweaking.

Ya, me too, that's why I tried to keep it simple lol! It's waaay too late in the day for me to be making any kind of sense ;)

Those calculators are pretty handy things...as long as you keep good notes and plug in what you DO know (nic base, target nic, flavor percentages, etc) they can help fill in the rest :) There really is no guesswork with them...SUCH a blessing!

Another option would be to add the same amount of flavoring (used for 5ml tester) to 5ml of your 36mg nic base and mix them together for 10ml of 18mg. Does that makes sense?

It makes sense if you are going from 36mg (which is what I have) to 18mg, but still trying to confirm the math if I go 36mg unflavored nic, add in my nicless test batch to get 15mg/ml.
