I noticed this on my RTA and wanted to see if anybody else experiences this.

When the wick is about to go, I get amazing flavor from my juice, then when I change it, the flavor is muted, problem is, when the wick is used up, I get spitting and leakage.

How can I get that amazing taste from the get go.

Also, when the flavor is good, I go through juice faster than usual, does this mean I'm inhaling "raw juice"? Is this in any way dangerous?

Sounds like in the beginning your wick isn't fully saturated, then it's getting saturated, then it's flooding. You might want to play around a bit with the amount of wick you're using.

Can you take a pic of your wicked coil? If I had to guess, it's probably too much cotton, though not by much.
No I don't have a pic of when it was wicked fresh, but I had my doubts about using too much cotton, so I tried a build with less cotton, and it was a disaster, leaking everywhere

I never could get the wicks just right in my tanks, that's why I switched over to RDA's exclusively. You want enough cotton so that it will pull through the coil with slight resistance.

Yeah that's also why I'm thinking of exchanging my RTA for an RDA, just don't want to end up regretting it because my work is all travel and outdoors, can't keep stopping to drip

Consider a RDTA or Squonker. The flavor benefits of a RDA but with the juice capacity of RTAs.

Do you change the wick every time you change flavors or do you use multiple flavors on the same wick?

The reason I ask is that if you use only one juice per wick it is possible that the heat from the coils inside your tank might be warming the juice up and maturing it a bit. Then it becomes a form of steeping that many of us DIYers use which is to add 10% of an already steeped juice to a new batch to help reduce the steeping time. Each time you top up your juice it would have some residual juice mixing in and improving the flavor of your vape.

I would definitely suggest RDAs as I use them exclusively. Im not a squonker but I hear great things about them for convenience of not having to drip all the time. If you are constantly on the go I would NOT recommend an RDTA. I have one and while it vapes awesome, it must be kept upright at all times or the well just spills out everywhere. There is nothing keeping the juice from leaking if not kept upright.

I actually do keep my wick and keep adding flavors, and I don't know what a squonker is.

How hard is DIY BTW, thinking of cutting cost by mixing my own poison

Short answer....DIY is only as difficult as you want to make it...and even then its pretty simple.

If you want to get in to it start off with simple recipes containing no more than 3 flavor concentrates. I really recommend only going single flavor recipes in the beginning so as to get a good idea of what each concentrate tastes like on its own.

There is TONS of info on DIY in the (you guessed it) DIY section of the forum. Check out @dannyv45 blog for tips, pointers, and safety advice for beginners.

DIY is awesome! :thumb:

On the KF5 I have found that the ID of your coil can make a difference in wicking.... a 2.5 ID is the easiest. It seems to be the perfect size for the wick... Yes you can use a 3mm ID it just needs extra trimming or a 2mm but it needs a little more attention when placing it in the wells... they all work but the 2.5mm seams to work with the least effort... hope that helps..
