Flavoring with imitation cherry extract?

Caramel color falls into 4 different grades and I only feel okay with 1 of them (not a doctor though). I'm not sure what FD&C red 40 is. If it is cochineal extract (from bug shells) it should be safe but some amount of people have allergic reactions and labeling laws on it just changed this Jan.

Besides that though, this is about the last type of flavoring I would vape. Heck, I would probably prefer to vape plain PG/VG than imitation cherry. It probably isn't concentrated enough for vaping too. Get some Decadent Vapor's Sour Cherry from Totally Wicked if you want a good cherry. The only problem with it is the price.

The ingredients are water, alcohol (20%), pg, natural and artificial flavors, caramel color and FD&C red 40. I have some nasty tasting juice and was wondering if it safe to add this to it? Anyone tried this? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Where did You buy the extract? My FlavourArt Cherry is clear and the one I have from LorAnn is colored. Personally If I can get a flavor with no color that's the one I will use.

I tried some LorAnn cherry and thought it tasted like cough syrup and talk about a PIA trying to get the flavor out of my atty. But if your juice is nasty, I'd say it's worth a try. I had a huge order that was 80 percent nasty and I've been trying to doctor it up, as well. Coffee and caramel seem to work pretty well at masking other flavors if you like them.

Could it be that you are using too much flavoring?

I read, "I'd vape it if it was bug shells", and laughed. I should stop paraphrasing as I read....

:lol: I read it that way too on first go round!

I think the OP is asking about an imitation cherry flavoring most likely from the grocery store, not a Lorann, FA, etc... Not sure as I am not the OP.

Back to vaping red bug shell dye or maybe I should be painting with it. :p

That isn't even paraphrasing. It is complete misinterpretation =)

But yes, I do have some flavoring right now with cochineal and vaped some. It turns a dark violet in ejuice. Again, I am not sure if that is even the type of red dye he has. I think it might not be and that is an "artificial" Red 40, whereas cochineal is also called "natural" Red 40 or carmine.

If people want to be freaked out about bugs in food, read the USDA guidelines for acceptable limits of bug antennae or rat droppings in your canned spaghetti-O's.

Nah, that doesn't bug me. I've helped my grandfather make headcheese because the store bought stuff didn't have eyes in in any more. I'd rather eat bugs.

Momof5;

Back to your question. I think others here have tried imitation vanilla before and found it had almost zero vaping flavor. The caramel color may clog your atty or carto, I am not certain. You could give it a try, but it may taste like yuck or blow a carto or atty. Not sure about artificial flavoring, but it must be in a lot of the flavors we are using for juice b/c some of them taste like candy not fruit, etc...

If the OP is trying to use McCormick Cherry Extract, mixed with some Humco Glycerin, I can tell that I'm making the same test right now (no nic) and tastes just like if I had dripped VG alone. No cherry flavor whatsoever. Tried on a standard 510 Cartomizer, a regular 510 atty and an LR 510 atty. Lots of vapor, AMAZING vapor, but no flavor at all. I got it up to 50% cherry extract and 50% Humco and there's nothing... not even a hint of cherry.

Maybe is Humco's fault, I don't know. But I even tried to drip the extract alone (since it says it has PG base) and it doesn't work... no vapor, it doesn't vape.

RubenX;

That is exactly what I have read on long ago posts about McCormicks, or any grocery store extract being used for vaping. Just no flavor. It does not matter about PG/VG, it is the grocery store extracts are not concentrated enough to give a vape flavor.

It is not humco's vg, it is the "imitation name flavor here" extract. Those are not extracts. Try imitation vanilla then pay the few bucks more for real vanilla (when baking) you get the idea.

For vaping, flavors seem to need to be more pronounced. There are threads above these in the DIY section to help. I can tell you that for me Lorann's tastes like nothing, like the imitation cherry the OP asks of. So, go with your choice flavor vendor and see what you like. Flavors are not expensive, so you can try. Would be nice if one vendor sold all brands and gave explanations of the brands though. Maybe one does and I don't know.
