Ok, so I'm about to get into DIY. Mostly I'm getting into extracting tobaccos, but while I'm at it, I figure I might as well make regular flavored juice for my wife. I've read and read more, and I'm pretty confident when my supplies arrive, and can make my own tobacco extracts, and also, mix liquid by weight, etc.

What was daunting to me when I was doing my initial order from NicRiver is the vast amount of flavor choices to choose from. My wife is one of those vapers who just vapes strawberry vanilla, and that's it for years.

So, when I ordered a couple strawberry and French vanilla flavors, I never thought of any type of sweetener. I've seen Ethyl Maltol and sucralose mentioned in recipies, but it didn't even dawn on me to put those in my order.

Do flavors contain some degree of sweetener on their own, or do I have to now make an order somewhere just solely for sweeteners?

A lot of flavors do contain sweetener. EM does add a little sweetness but not really a sweetener. It can add mouth smoothness and it can mute flavor in anything other than small amounts.

Get a bottle of super sweet but only use it after trying the flavor without it and only in small amount like a drop or two per 10 ml.

If you like tobacco try the Purilum Sweet Tobacco, really good at 5% to 7% and mixes well with fruits.

Many of the sweeter flavors will contain some sweetener already, that is correct. I would get some sucralose, as it is also correct that Ethyl maltol in high amounts can mute some flavors and is already an ingredient in some flavors that are sweet.

I use FA "Supersweet" which is a rather potent concentration of sucralose, which I trust as a sweetener, I know how it works, how my body processes it and etc. A little bit can go a long way, when I use it it is usually at no more than one or two drops per 30 ml. It's pretty potent though.

I'd agree with trying flavorings first, steeping them AT LEAST 48--72 hours at minimum, and maybe taste testing them, and if you feel it's indicated, adding some sweetener then. It has been my experience that many strawberry and vanilla flavors are pretty sweet to start with. Depending on the concentration you use, you may not need added sweetener at all, although it is a handy thing to have available in many recipies.

Best of luck

Thanks for the replies! Just bugs me that I didn't think of it until just after placing my order. Now, I'll probably have to make another order somewhere just for sweetener.

I'll probably have to order a better assortment of flavors anyway. It's just that the whole assortment of flavor vendors and selections within seems even more daunting than when I got into building, or anything else vape wise.

I'm the type of person that took all night to select which struts to order for my car online, so you can imagine the OCD that kicked in when I went to choose flavors and all those selections came up!

It takes awhile to find flavors that you prefer. Probably easiest to get several that sound good to you in small 10ml bottles. 10 ML will actually go pretty far if you are testing them out in 5-8% range and mixing small batches to try like 10ML mixed at a time. You can always buy larger bottles of the one you like, but it is really almost impossible to vape the ones you hate.

Hang in there you will find flavors you like

Heh, the only rule in DIY is everyones tastebuds are different.

FA Black cherry + FA Cola= Yum even at 2%+ each IMO.
Never tried that but I will. Maybe the cola mask some of what I get from it. BC is about the only one I can stand at any level. All the rest taste like cough syrup or plastic to me.
