I recently started making my own liquid and I love it. I bought a complete kit from liquidbarn.com and I like it so far. My only issue is that some of my flavors I make hit really hard for the first couple of puffs, then they mellow out and taste fantastic. Is this caused from a lack of steeping? Or is this from bad flavor extracts. I admit I have been very impatient and haven't really been steeping my e-liquid, but most of them taste great right after they are mixed. Any advice out there for me?

I bought the DIY kit from liquidbarn.com. it came with everything you need to start including flavors. The ones that hit super hard are the mountain dew and pink lemonade. I use their nicotine at 3mg at a 70/30 mix. In the one I'm talking about I tried a blue raspberry lemonade. It has 5% of blue rasberry, 5% of pink lemonade and 2% of sweetner.

Assuming it's mixed well...it COULD be that the flavor IS strong, and that those first few hits are numbing your taste buds to it. You might try a mix at a lower percentage and see if the taste stays more consistent...
Taste DOES get "overwhelmed" - a common DIY issue is people who make something at 20% and say it has "no flavor"...

I have the flavorings at 10% so I guess I'll have to try the steeping
When I started mixing I thought it would be really hard and really complicated to get a flavor I liked. I was wrong. The first discovery was I needed very little flavor to get a good vape. Currently I'm using just 1% flavoring and it tastes fine. There are a couple of advantages to minimal flavor. If the liquid leaks onto my clothing from pocket carry I don't reek. Coworkers say they don't notice any smell with the low percent mix.
