Just got my hardware yesterday (itaste vv and kanger unitank - thanks for all of the help on my question about what to use with my hand problems, they work great) and I'm trying to get going on this.

My big problem so far is the juice. I'm not real fond of most artificial flavors and I'd smoked menthol for the last 30 years so I started with a menthol and a mint and both seem really sweet tasting to me. This is making it really hard to drop the analogs. Does anyone have any ideas on something that doesn't taste sweet? Is the base itself sweet tasting?

For myself I can't imagine wanting candy or fruit flavors. I'd read bad things about the tobacco flavors, but might one of these work? Any and all ideas appreciated.

Congrats and welcome! I'm not too into the really sweet flavors either, but some of them are nice. I thought I'd want tobacco flavors when I started vaping and I've tried a few. I don't like any of them and they seem to get worse the longer I don't smoke. The Vapor Hut sells a juice called RYD2. Their description is off I think. To me, it tastes just like soft pretzel. It's not sweet. I really like it.

VG is sweeter, so the more VG in a juice, the more potential it has to be sweet on the palate.

What kind of flavors are you looking for in a juice? Some flavors are meant to be sweet, so your palate is most likely going to interpret them as sweet, especially if they're spot on flavors.

I would log on to Mt. Baker Vapor. They have hundreds of juices and pretty good descriptions of what the flavors are. The description will let you know what is sweet or spicy. They are not know for their tobaccos. But they are cheap and ship quick and you can get a free sample bottle with a $15 order. Use coupon code Vaporfrombaker to get 10% off your order.

Another option is High Desert Vapes. They also have lots of flavors and pretty good descriptions. Their Dueling Banjos is a tobacco that is not harsh and is not sweet. Their Irish Cream tastes like Irish Creme. They also are cheap and ship quick. They are having a 40% off sale on their liquids for the month of October.

The higher the pg the more throat hit and harsher the liquid. The higher the vg the less throat hit and a little sweeter. High vg can also clog up a topper. 50/50 seems to be popular and not cause problems for lots of people.

Glad you made it and got started vaping. There is some trial and error with vaping. We are here to help. Keep reading and asking questions.

Thanks. I looked at Mt Baker Vapor, but hadn't gotten past the statement that all of their juices came in 15 ml childproof bottles. I wouldn't be able to open those and their contact us tab won't work with my tablet so I haven't been able to ask if they have any alternative. I suppose that in the long run I could have my daughter decant them for me but I'll need more juice before she's back up here.

I was a menthol smoker too, and some vapes were so sweet I couldn't stand them. I found a great vape at Pink Spot Vapors. The Frozen Lime Drop is more tart than sweet, and may be a good first fruity vape for you to try.

My advice when finding a vape is to just give some a try even though you think, ewww why would I want to vape a flavor like that? Vaping is such a different experience and it does require a bit of experimentation. It helps to move out of your comfort zone a bit

You could also try and find juice from places that have sampler packs. It's a much less intimidating way to try several flavors. You won't have to worry about being stuck with lots of juice you just don't like, but rather just a few mls.

I have also discovered that my tastes have changed get a lot in the time I've been vaping. What did not appeal to me at first I often ended up enjoying.

As others have mentioned, VG is itself a little sweet, so you might reduce that. And there are juice flavors that are not sweet.

But, as a relative newcomer, I'd like to add something, too. A few days in, I did not like the sweet flavors. At all. They disgusted me. I was looking everywhere for unsweet flavors. But after three weeks, I noticed something. I was liking the sweet flavors more. And more. Now my revulsion for sweet flavors is a memory, and I'm even discovering that I like flavors I never thought I would enjoy. I kind of regret overstocking unsweet flavors-- I will use them, but it will take me longer than I realized.

I am, for example, the only person I know who does not like chocolate and peanut butter together. Dislike that flavor combo and always have for as long as I can remember. But I just tried a chocolate & peanut butter vape juice that I liked (5Pawns Grandmaster). I have no explanation for that. I still don't like the foods together.

Your tastes will probably change somewhat. Maybe more slowly than mine, but maybe faster than you think. Some of it will be leaving cigarettes behind, enlivening your taste buds. Some of it will be getting used to vaping, acquiring the tastes. Some of it-- who knows, it may just be a mystery. :)

I vape menthol and I can recommend BackWoods Brew menthols--they are a masterful blend of menthol and light tobacco base; I usually order light or medium menthol level (in drop down menu). The bottles I get from them are childproof, but they are easy to open. Or you could have them decanted to regular bottles.

Another great menthol flavor comes from Nhaler and it's called Nuport. No, it doesn't taste like a Newport cigarette, but it's good an not too sweet.

6mL High Voltage Samplers - 12mg

Another juice from Nhaler that is not sweet at all is their Lung Green Tea.

6mL Lung Juice Samplers - Assorted Strength

All those juices are clean, clear and lightly flavored. Oh, and Nhalers bottles are not childproof--unless he changed them recently.

Good luck.

Hello, I am new to vaping too :) 4 weeks no cigarettes!! Yeah me :) I have many bottles of juice and like you they are not sweet enough. I vape 70/30 pg/vg because of the throat hit. Last night I took my teaberry juice (all my juices have 2 extra flavor shots) from Mount Baker Vap and took a drag but lifted my tongue (I know this sounds weird) but I actually tasted it. LOL

I have trouble with getting the drip tip off of bottles too.
I found that if I unscrew the cap, then set it back on top the the driptip, and tip the cap to one side or the other, it snaps the drip plug out without a struggle.
Maybe this will help, and maybe not, I don't know your problems, but thought I would suggest it, because it works so well for me.
