Flavors that may contain Diacetyl, are there really this many?

New here, just bought some Uncle Junks John Wayne, on the site it says everything is FDA approved, it does have Artificial and natural flavoring, shoud I be concerned, this was suppose to be a healthy decision....:(

I was also gonna order some flavoring and VG from Wizard labs for myself(None smoker) just for fun but now I am very unsure, glad I found the theard, kinda late though, is it still better then smoking though and by how much, I know that might be impossible to answer, just thought I would try to get opinions.

Yes it's still a lot better than smoking. See the link in this post, it's the the latest study done on DA and AP. You will know what we know:

Ahh I see, kind hard to tell which has it sadly, wish they would release a safe brand/liquid list but seems that's unlikely. I emailed Uncle Junks and got this 10 mins later.

"Thank you for contacting us. There is no diacetyl in our Jon Wayne. Uncle Junk specifically avoided any ingredients or flavors that contain diacetyl. I hope that answered your question, let us know if there is anything else we can help you with! Have a great weekend"

I did not ask about
acetyl propionyl though, should I? Is this info to be trusted you think, I would think so because they seem like a premium company...?

Also I found this site: http://www.mountainoakvapors.com/Articles.asp?ID=6 which seems a safe bet, since they don't use it:

"That is what we do at Mountain Oak Vapors, all of our flavors are tested INDEPENDENTLY by a third party lab for Acetylaledhyde, Acetyl Propionyl, Dicaetyl, Formaldehyde and more."

Also found a flavoring site: http://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/flavorsworkshop/custard.html that seems pretty on top of things listing which of the flavors carried has these chemicals.

Example of ones having it.

Example of one not having it, interested in this one yet not sure since it has oils, heard thats bad?

I exhaust myself, think researching might be more deadly then these chemicals...

I read this thread with great interest. I have just had my 6 month anniversary of no analogues. I used to smoke 2 packs a day. I was aware of diacetyl when I started vaping as I'm obsessive and did tons of research prior to the switch, lol. Anyway, due to the fact that as yet one can't know anything beyond a reasonable doubt I have switched to "unflavored" e juice which a store up the road very kindly makes for me (I just give them an hour's notice when I need a bottle as it's not something they normally carry so they have to pop into the back room and mix it up specifically for me). At the present, I am down to 9 nic.

Anyway, here's my pleasant surprise, lol: I actually love unflavored juice. It has a good throat hit, it does NOT feel "like vaping nothing" and, interestingly, it is the closest thing I've found that actually feels/tastes like a real cigarette - even more so than flavored juice (how many people on here actually smoked flavored cigarettes???).

So for any who are worried and wish to cut down on their POSSIBLE chemical inhalations, here's a suggestion - add unflavored juice to your daily rotation. You don't even have to switch completely to unflavored, but by adding it to the rotation you will still be cutting down on any possible exposure. And you may be surprised by how much you like it.

Kinda curious, I know that pop corn lung happened from factory workers breathing in this chemical and we now know that these are dangerous(Diacetyl/Acetoin), wouldn't we know if the other flavorings were bad also, like the ones from perfumers apprentice? Since people probably work in those factories breathing in the fumes from these flavors on the daily for years? Or does everyone wear masks/Protective ware now? Kinda curious about that.....

Wonder if Natural Flavoring vs Artificial has any differences also, gut tells me natural is better but that's not always the case.

From speaking with Linda at TFA, she said that most natural flavorings contain more than the artificial ones since so many things we eat daily contain Diacetyl naturally, including fruits.

thanks for that link to mountain oak vapors. i've been a happy vapor for a little over a year but this thread gave me the heebie jeebies, and i was seriously considering whether i should just try to quit vaping. i just kept thinking about my favorite flavors and that none of the vendors i purchase them from say anything at all about Diacetyl. think i'll order a few samples from mountain oak. hope i like them.

i'm still kinda skittish about continuing vaping but reading the page about what's in (and not in) their juices does give me a little peace of mind for now.

Yeah I guess that makes sense, wonder how much Diacetyl we breath in when we pull the pie from the oven... :p

Yeah after reading up a bit more its seems like the safest bet at least imo so far is to go to Mountain Oak Vapors or a place like Perfumers Apprentice for making them since those places seem to do the studies that at least rule out the use of Diacetyl and Acetoin, everything else seems like a mystery as far as inhaling flavors....Wish we had more and better tests, oh well...

I do prefer Perfumers Apprentice over Mountain because of this page:

MSDS List for each flavor

Glad I could help somewhat, new to this myself, trying to get my step dad away from cigarettes but don't wanna replace one bad with another, well lesser(Most likely) evil. I was even gonna try some flavors(Bought an extra protank) just for kicks, I don't smoke though...so I probably wont take the risk.

I wish you and everyone the best of luck, hopefully this is all cleared up soon.

Do you d.i.y. ?
That is great suggestion for folks buying ready made e-juice from vendors. But since we are in the d.i.y. section, our knowledge base here exposes us to mix with minimum risk. Getting rid of "possible" exposure for a lot of mixers here would be to quit all vaping.

I buy the unflavored ready made, but I am looking to add my own flavors to some of it so that I have a maybe 60/80 unflavored/flavored, lol. Not sure if just adding my own flavors to some of it is dyi or not. I don't have the space or the know-how to mix up my own unflavored but I find you can buy it ready-mixed easily enough and I figure that's a good start. If I find flavors that are consistently free of the nasties. In the beginning I found a company in Italy that had a good collection but damned if I can find the name of it now :-(

FlavourArt are Italian: FlavourArt.it | FlavourArt.it

..and I note with interest their statement regarding diacetyl:
Supporto e Informazioni :: Che cosa è il Diacetile? - Supporto e Informazioni Risultati della Ricerca - FlavourArt - La sartoria degli aromi

The FDA continues to seek additional information to help further clarify any health effects from diacetyl. Is the industry doing anything about the potential health effects to workers? Yes. Because of the potential health risks from repeated exposure, the industry has implemented changes to reduce workplace exposure to diacetyl, including implementing engineering controls such as closed mixing tanks, separate mixing rooms for butter flavors, requiring respirators for mixing room operators, and improving air circulation in facilities.

We realize that for E smokers, our food flavors are used in a different way as they are not ingested but inhaled, and the presence of diacetyl can be a cause of concern.
For this reason we have carried out massive removal of diacetyl from our flavor collection since November 2010 and product still containing it are clearly identified.

Disclaimer: We produce and sell FOOD FLAVORS which comply with Italian and EU legislation and EFSA reccomendation. They are safe for FOOD use as they are intended to enter the body by the digestive system, not by lungs.

Thank you.... I have been looking at that Perfumer's Apprentice... I like that they list what hurts plastic and also what has the "caution to inhale" nasties in it. I am thinking on giving some of those a try but have totally no idea where or how to start, lol. I will try to stay 80% flavorless, but sometimes at night I like to have a flavor with a glass of wine

Thank you... well, I placed a small order with P's A, so we'll see if I can figure out what to do with it when it arrives

You can use the flavorings in coffee, over shaved ice, in whipped cream, yogurt, baking, etc. if you choose not to vape them.

This is something I've still not tried...using the flavorings in actual food/drink. I bet I could flavor up some iced tea really nicely!

And youre sure the unflavored is ok? The diacetyl, etc. was also found in very small parts pr. millions....what when we´re looking at the all ingredienses,in similar "fine checking" ?
