Flavors Turning Dark?

I've noticed a couple of flavors I don't use as much have turned dark. Like deep amber dark.

Does this mean they've gone bad and need to be tossed out?

I thought that flavors didn't necessarily expire.

It doesn't mean they have gone bad. It's a natural oxidation process of nicotine. With age, some flavors may get a little weaker. Best to keep juices in a dark closet or something similar. I mix my own and usually do several 120ml bottles at a time. As I progress through them, they get darker, and quite a bit so near the end, but no worries! They are still good.

Using the word "flavoring" though...means only 1 thing. Even the bottles of it have "flavoring" or "concentrated flavoring" written on the label somewhere. Just a suggestion though.

But even flavorings aren't "pure flavors". They're all in some sort of base, ie. PG, VG, sometimes PG/VG, some have ethyl alcohol, and other stuff.

That's a great point. What do you think about a concentrated flavoring turning really dark?

I've had it happen to flavorings that were already brown or brownish in color when I got them...and then they got darker as they aged. I haven't had it happen though to flavorings that were clear or almost clear when I got them. If I've ever had a doubt about any darker ones still being good...I'll shake it really well and then put a drop or 2 on my finger for a taste test. That's usually enough for me to decide to go ahead and use it, for maybe a 10mL tester eliquid, or just discard it.

I've ordered 2 bottles of the same flavoring from the same vendor, one was darker than the other.

Ah, OK then. Flavorings, especially ones that are amber to darker will get darker with age. I have one flavoring in particular that really turns dark, but it hasn't affected the taste. I still am able to use it. Flavorings will eventually start to mute the taste and it would be about time to toss. Just do what was suggested and shake and taste test to see what you think.

A dark flavoring can give the juice a good color. While it turning darker is certainly a warning, I'd look at the color of the resulting eliquid. Dark juice often tastes fine on the first drag, but an off-flavor will build up.

If in doubt, pitch it. Flavors aren't really that expensive. No sense inhaling something you have doubts about.

I have some Flavorings in the back of my Vape Drawer that are are Clear as the day I received them. And they are close to 10 Years Old. But then there are Flavorings like FA Pralines and Cream that will turn Black as India Ink after 9 months or so.

So Yeah... Some Do and Some Don't.

I Don't really DIY much anymore. But when I did, I had this "One Year Rule". That even if something Looked OK, if it was over a Year Old that I would No Longer Use it.

Not sure what Flavors can go Bad and what Flavors have extremely Long Life Spans? But as mentioned earlier, Flavoring is Relatively Cheap. So if in Doubt, Throw it Out.

I've been meaning to post, it is only sweet/bakery type concentrates which have turned this dark.

I have some 555 tobaccos that are 7+ years old and have turned darker amber as time goes by but they still taste fine and I still use them. Usually chemically based flavorings stay good for many many years and are safe to use but if they taste off or dis-pleasing to you then you may want to discard those. It's the flavorings using naturally derived plant based ingredients that you have to be careful with because they do spoil. For those go by the use by date.

I have a bottle of double chocolate clear that ended up turning darker after a while. Still tastes like chocolate though.
