Hi, I'm starting DIY-ing my own e-liquid,
I tried to vape it unflavoured - but it didn't really taste to my liking.. not too bad, but not great.

What puts me off most flavourings is that they usually contain: 'Artificial and natural ingredients'
I presume under 'artificial ingredients' - includes artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and others.
I really want to avoid these as they are known to be unhealthy on consumption, i would imagine this is also true for vaping them - even if it wasn't you still get it in your mouth and swallow some.

So i'm looking for a: 'All natural' flavour concentrate company.
Any companies you would recommend? (I'd also like it to be Diacectyl, DEG and acetyl propion free e.t.c.)

I'm in the U.K but if i have to order from abroad i'm willing.
Much thanks,
J

Natural flavorings are known to be more problematic, extracting them often results in undesirable stuff coming out with it. They also tend to be less concentrated. Also just because a flavor is "natural" doesn't mean it comes from what flavor it is, for example raspberry flavor is made from beaver .... glands.

Sweeteners are usually sucralose, ethyl maltol (cotton candy flavor), and sugars. Sugars are the worst for heating and are most common in extracts, although for some reason some fruit flavorings list 1% sugar for some reason (maybe part natural) which you then use 2-15% in the juice. Most sweeteners are seperate from the flavorings. When sucralose is used, the amounts vary greatly. Very small amounts can have a good effect, but if you want it sweeter than that it takes a lot more.

My approach is to simply use the flavorings others use (and also tobacco extracts), but at lower flavor concentrations and consuming less juice as well. I'm still reducing flavoring, to taste though not due to fear.

What makes vaping most safe may not be at first obvious. Several here have reported, for example, that of the "butter notes" the feared diacetyl is actually the least irritating and the "safe" substitutes are the most irritating. The forum has people come through fairly regularly complaining of issues vaping unflavored or pure VG which I believe is actually caused by the difficulty feeling satisfied without flavoring or PG. Flavors aren't just flavor, they improve throat hit and the sense of the vapor being substantial.

You might want to look into Lotus/Medicine Flower flavors. I'm not very concerned over "artificial flavors," and I'm not sure you should be, but that's a conversation for another day. The MF flavors are naturally extracted and, they are, IMHO, mostly very, very good. They are hard to work with (as mcclintock pointed out) and you'll pay through the nose for them (though ecigexpress still has some on sale as they close out their stock.)

:thumb: for the Lotus/Medicine Flower flavors. At least for the few that I've used. They are MUCH more concentrated than any other manufacturers flavors.

Here is their website. Genuine Flavors

    Smaller bottles can be purchased here (for a great price!) Lotus Flavors - Browse by Brand - Flavor Concentrates - <p class="shopbydepartment"><span style="font-size: 14px;">Shop by</span><span style="font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold;">Department</span></p>

I wish they still had the best MF flavors for that price- the Vanilla in particular, but also the honeydew, strawberry, etc... I have a lot of MF samplers steeping at the moment, and they do require some steeping. But they are, IMHO, the best stand-alone flavors available. The Honeydew is one of their best, and it's just a great full Honeydew flavor that you could vape all day without anything else.
