Spent the last couple of hours at a dealer trying all of the above and more, except RY4 which he doesn't deal in, says he'll get some. I was doing my best not to inhale too much but still managed a nicotene overdose and feel kinda ill right now. Test rig was a pair of J118's, alternating to let them cool down, and a few attys to reduce flavour overlap.

Must say, I am very disappointed, the majority of the flavours were weak and unimpressive and none of them hit me as THE ONE! The only truly strong flavours were the nuttiness of 555, the raspberry of Red Bull and the mintiness of Menthol, none of which tasted good to me and I wouldn't be able to vape them for long.

I'm kinda stunned and speechless right now, the carrot dangling in front of me (vaping), to help me give up smoking, has been snatched away, leaving me feeling lost and directionless.

What could be the problem? Cheap juice? The J118? My taste buds?

Well Doug ... dont give up ...
...at risk of sounding like a cracked record or a sales-pearson >>> you gotta try a 510 type unit - really I was blown away - used the STICK for 3 weeks - thought I was onto the best unit as it makes so much smoke - just for fun tried a Twisp Dura C (510 unit) whew tasted amazing - I bought it immediately - have since sourced 510 units for cheaper ...
They dont look like much - but they kick  510

I think you missed the point here riche, I have no complaints about my Stick and it wasn't used in te testing. The discussion was about the liquids and their lack of taste and possible lack of pedigree. I have no idea whether the 510 would have tasted better than the J118's the dealer provided for my testing, given the same liquids.

Ok ... Doug ... don’t get me wrong ... seemed you were getting despondent about vaping...
Sooo Just trying to help here – I went through many flavours with my STICK – and yes the unit you use is very important – so maybe it was a fault of the 118 unit.
The STICK does allow GREAT flavour through.

Your thread took me because you are the first to note the acrid taste of e-juice.
I find this with many of the flavours … many of the cigarette brand emulator flavours have this taste and smell. It is actually close to nauseating …
Weird thing is many other people I’ve spoken to don’t note this ACRID taste at all…

As I said I was shocked at the difference in taste and feel (like a real smoke) between the STICK and 510 – that’s all … So don’t miss my point here – The unit does make a huge difference to the taste and experience of vaping.
As we all know it’s not easy to stop smoking – this is why we desperately try this vaping thing – it does work – but I almost gave up vaping because I started finding the STICK a problem…
I was adamantly pro STICK … and anti fiddly cigarette looking blue light – battery charging intensive little units…
Anyway – I am getting some flavours to try for myself soon including RY4.
Sooo will tell you about them …
P.S. Twisps Tob#1 is actually my favourite flavour with the STICK – as expensive and useless as they are – Twisp has its pros …

Bought a generic Chinese Virginia 20mg, 30ml juice to vape in a longer term test without other flavour interference. Here's a comparison using My Janty (Twisp in SA) Stick with the Twisp Virginia High:

Twisp Virginia High (said to be 15mg?):

Flavour: Pleasantly high but slightly acrid

Vapour: Fair to good volume for an hour or two, then starts to reduce as cart dries. Requires topping 3 to 4 times a day.

Throat affect: No to mild hit if I take a deep draw, no lingering irritation

Stomach affect: Mild discomfort if vaped too intensely, need to eat something to settle

Chest affect: Mild shortness of breath after a few hours

Effectiveness against analogs: 50%. I smoked half my usual number per day, cravings persist.

Cost effectiveness: Very poor, R245 ($32) for 20ml. Lasts well however.

No-name Chinese brand: Marked Virginia 20mg

Flavour: None discernable, not very pleasant

Vapour: High volume for less than an hour, then reduces sharply as cart dries. Requires frequent topping.

Throat affect: No to mild hit if I take a really deep draw, Leaves throat burning

Chest affect: Mild shortness of breath and light chest pains after a few hours

Stomach affect: Mild discomfort if vaped too intensely, need to eat something to settle

Effectiveness against analogs: 95%. I smoked 1 today, cravings suppressed.

Cost effectiveness: Excellent, R99 ($13) for 30ml. Burns up fast however.

Overall, fighting analogs effectively and economically is my main objective and the Twisp juice fails, so the generic juice wins by default, but it's not nice. I've tried with marginal success topping 75%/25% generic/Twisp to get some flavour. Tried a smudge of Vanilla/Caramel essence from the kitchen during topping. What can I say, I'm a flavour craver, but this failed. A touch of Vanilla essence in the Twisp juice gave a strong flavour, but made practically no difference to the generic juice.

I think I've got it worked out..... high nicotene = low flavour, so I'll stick with the generic Chinese stuff until I've rid myself of analogs, then maybe enjoy vaping with weak but flavourful stuff.

When I started e-cigs, I naturally began with Marlboro - that was my brand. HATED it. Just wasn't the same. The 1st flavor I found that I actually enjoyed was 555. Then I discovered Coffee ... And there was no going back. It took a couple months before I could get my head around the idea of vaping fruit flavors. And after 4 months vaping, Coffee remains an all day vape. I also vape a blend of Cigar, Cherry & Menthol. And I add a fruit flavored vape in the evenings.

Whose 'coffee' are you vaping?

Flavor is really a trial and error thing. In my early vaping days I wanted nothing but prefilled carts, hated flavors. Then I tried LitB Apple in my pipe and loved it. I am a pepsi drinker so I got Pepsi and Dr. Pepper flavor and couldn't stand them. Then Litecig threw in a free CocaCola last order and it is awesome! You just never know what you are going to like so you got to buy some and just see. My personal all day favorite is Dekang Cappuccino.
