Anyone got a good suggestion as to which FlavourArt flavour would be the best to use to add some sweetness to other flavours

I was playing around with the Coffee Espresso the other day and ended up using Meringue to sweeten it. Meringue is working really well as a sweetener for me because it is subtle enough to sweeten without adding too much additional flavor. It didn't help the Coffee Espresso though. Just tasted like coffee beans that had been put through an incinerator. I'm not a coffee drinker though, so maybe I'm missing the point.

I also tried Maple Syrup as a sweetener, which works but has too much flavor to use unless you want the addition of the maple flavor as well.

Torrone is da bomb!

Meringue, Almond, Honey, and a hint of... Anise?

Mighty tasty!

Ooh, I had really been wondering about their Torrone ??? ... That does sound mighty good :p! ... However , I'm really not much of a fan of anything licorice-y (the Anise !) ... So, my question is ?? : Is the Anise in it really very noticeable ? ...
Or can anyone please confirm for me, is it indeed definitely anise that's in this Torrone ??? (I noticed that "uncertain question mark" there, so am left wondering :)). ...
I'm kinda hoping it's perhaps something else rather, like Amaretto maybe ??? ) ... I've never actually seen Anise used in any recipe for Torrone before , which is another reason why I ask. (But that doesn't mean much, they could have still used some here though, to be different !!??)

Anise and licorice are often put together, but individually, they don't taste all that similar.

In Torrone, there is, if anything, very very little anise. There's something like it, a very very faint hint, just to round of the flavour. I just checked, I had not even consciously noticed it before. (And flooded the atty again ;))
Torrone tastes a lot like the torrone bits in Toblerone, that is, the white soft bits. Which is of course hardly surprising, given that those are torrone. So not licorice-like at all.

The funny thing is, it tastes differently today. I made the mix on Wednesday evening and my perception of anise was strongest then. My fiancée tried it, wasn't impressed by the taste. Thursday morning it was much the same. By Thursday evening the honey and almond flavors seemed to assert themselves; my fiancée loved it. Now, on Friday morning, I don't taste 'anise' at all and the other flavors seem slightly muted.

I mixed this batch using a 100% VG base, with 4.5 drops per ml. I've heard that VG tends to affect flavors more than PG, so that may be the case here. Next batch will be made with PG liquid for comparison.

.
(BTW, I discovered that South American Torrone sometimes includes anise oil...)

Thanx "Alex + Max" !!! ... That has certainly assured me that the amount of "anise-y" taste is, if anything, quite minimal. Which suits me just fine ! ...
Actually, while I do think the taste of anise is somewhat similar to licorice (it's "licorice-y") ... (and it is often exchanged for one another, especially in the U.S) ... I do agree that there is a difference between them, with Anise being much more refined and not quite as intense and "musty" as licorice. So all in all, it does actually not bother me quite as much. I can "stomach" a touch of it. ... (And as you say, perception is everything, ~ I may not even pick it up at all myself ???) ... Thanx again guys, I think I will give it a try then !)

Clove - I had prepared myself for disappointment and that is just what I got. There is no initial bite and no numbing after effect. I really don't know about the flavor because without those effects I just can't judge. To me clove is like menthol in that it isn't the flavor I am concerned about as much as the fireworks. I got this mainly for my sister-in-law because after I gave her a kit she started mixing up PG and clove oil. I was hoping to find something that would convince her to stop using the oil but this isn't going to do it.

I've been trying to recreate that real clove feel too, I couldn't do it with any DIY flavor or premix that I found except one.

I got my clove smoking friends hooked on DIYflavorshack's clove last night, they will be ordering ecigs tomorrow. :) it has that bite and mouth numbing effect. I don't know what she's got in there, but I haven't been able to get even close on my own.

Warning, your atomizer will be good for nothing else afterward.

How many drops of Torrone per ml are people using?

I used a lot: 4 drops per ml, in VG base. The flavor is strong at this concentration. You may find that you need less, especially if you use PG.

I would suggest starting with 2 drops per ml in your test batch. Mine had to sit for 18 hours before the final, true flavor developed. It's worth waiting for, because I think the flavor is perfect- it surpassed my expections!

After doing a lot of DIY, I do tend to like a lot of the FlavourArt flavorings. I don't have to use very much at all and I think that is why they tend to not be atty cloggers. I've been wanting to do more bakery/dessert type flavors, so I'm thinking Meringue and even Beer (for a yeasty note) might be good ones to have on hand. I've read some negative reviews on Bread Crust, but that one might be a good one to have on hand too for what I'm trying to accomplish.

Why would you in the past criticize ppl for bumping old threads (just a few months old) then turn around and do it yourself to spite someone? Can we stop this please? It's gotten beyond annoying.

There IS however a lot of good info here BUT alot of these flavs have changed over the years since this thread started. :2c:
