I was out and about today and noticed that fog machine juice is widely available right now for Halloween. This got me interested in other possible uses for fog juice, possibly as a base for homebrew 0-nic e-juice. I looked up the MSDS for a couple brands of fog juice and checked the CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) numbers (the ingredients were listed by CAS number, not by name), and it appears that fog machine juice really is just propylene glycol, glycerin, and water. Is there any known good reason why I shouldn't buy a gallon of this stuff for $20-$25, divvy it up into dropper bottles with Lorann flavorings, and vape the heck outta it? :) The website I was looking at says they use pharmaceutical grade ingredients and de-ionized water.

I checked for labels on 'Fog Juice'... the jugs I looked at had no ingredient list of any kind.
I don't remember seeing any numbers.
I can look next time I'm there - but I was surprised at nothing making any reference (at least not that made any sense to me) to anything other than 'Fog Juice' in big letters.

If there's too much water it might not work in p/v's.
Hope you get some better answers.

The PG in Smoke / Fog / Haze fluid is industrial grade (I know, I use a lot at work). It's not a good idea to vape it. You really need pharmaceutical grade PG

According to the website I looked at, Froggy's Fog Juice DOES use pharmaceutical grade ingredients. (this is the Fire/Rescue training fog juice, not the stuff from Party City or Walmart for Halloween foggers...that stuff just gave me the idea).
I had to look up the Material Safety Data Sheet and then google the CAS registry numbers of the ingredients, as I have yet to find a fog juice that lists specific ingredients on the jug. But all it was was PG, glycerin, and water.
So far the only PG I've been able to find at Tractor Supply is labeled "Feed Grade: For Animal Use Only". I got PG from my local pharmacy but it was like $15 for a pint.

I'd be inclined to contact them & get that confirmed in writing. Ican't see why any fog juice manufacturer would use BP / USP grade PG (especially when most of it is made in the Far East)

I would be very careful when using any of these none USP grade fog juices. I have advanced chemistry training and know that chemicals are synthesized in different methods according to their intended use. Pharmaceutical grade chemicals are usually more expensive to produce because extra time and effort is taken to make sure harmful by-product chemicals are removed (through additional distillations, more expensive reagents, ect.). For instance, some preps. of PG include an ethylene glycol catalyst(antifreeze) that is highly toxic and can remain as a by-product. A chinese comp. making cheap fog juice won't likely take these extra safety precautions. There have been plenty of deadly examples of this in the past few years (tainted infant formula, toothpaste, ect). I wouldn't use any cheap fog juice unless I was certain of the chemical composition; it's not worth saving a few bucks.

Probably better to simply locate a year round source of USP propylene glycol than rely on fog machine liquid that only seems to show up around Halloween.

For a one-off deal, as long as your dead sure the fog liquid is really USP propylene glycol, I guess it should be safe.

If "made in China" is anywhere within 100 yards of the label, I'd run... fast and far.

I'm disinclined to vape anything made in China that wasn't made for the express purpose of vaping. And even then I sometimes feel a little leery about it.

Seeing as this Froggy's Fog company is USA-based (Tennessee, apparently), and per their website they use "pharmaceutical grade ingredients" to make their Fire/Rescue Training Fog, and according to the MSDS for Fire/Rescue Training Fog those ingredients are PG, glycerin, and water, I might be inclined to give it a cautious try. I think first though I'll email the company and try to confirm that the ingredients really are USP.

Edit: Ok, I asked the company if the ingredients were USP grade and they replied with "They are pharmaceutical grade. Higher than USP." I think I might order some and give it a cautious try.
