As soon as possible (but recognizing that it probably will take awhile and some experimenting), discover what you like in a personal vaporizer and e-liquid and stay loyal to it. Do not be swayed by the crowd or the fad of the moment.

For example, for me:
  • The penstyle is the greatest e-cig ever made. I love the atty (especially Joye302); it yields the flavor and throat hit I want ... and I think its slender length is elegant. A bit more vapor and a somewhat more powerful battery would be nice.
  • 5V+ mods hit too hard. Most 3.7V mods are overpriced.
  • Super-minis stink! [Not literally.] And dripping or dipping those exposed attys is messy.
  • The decent cartridge (modded or otherwise) has yet to be invented.
  • The 510 has no throat hit. I enjoy it, and certainly the vapor (how does Joye do that in a device so small?), but strickly for my 0mg "pacifier" vaping.
  • Most Dekang juice tastes perfumy.
  • What an e-cig looks and feels like is important. Box mods are klunky.
  • Why would anyone want to engage the battery on their PV with their teeth or pinky finger? Let's hear it for the thumb!
So is that ultimate, objective "truth" ... for everyone? Of course not! But it is for me and I'm sticking with it ... unless and until I change my mind.

Don I am honoured by your post here on the sticky forum...your guide for newcomers was my bible in the first weeks of vaping...Thankyou for posting it means alot to a gal trying in my own little way to help out other newcomers...

The Wonderful World of Vaping: An Illustrated Guide to E-cigs (Parts 1 through 6)

I doubt if anyone could pass through here and not see this guide but here is the link to this essential tool when starting out : o)

I couldn't agree more, Don, find what you like and stick with it. I started using the Joye 510 about a month after I started vaping and have stayed with it for the past four months. It's the perfect PV for me, so why change? The Joye 510, Johnson Creek e-juice and my KR808D-1, for when I am on the road and I am all set and very happy.

But, I do disagree with you on the 510's throat hit, I get a good hit from mine and plenty of vapor.

Thanks, just-cass! You're making me blush.

And don't shortchange your own contributions!

But you see, Jerry, that's just my point. You (and many vapers) get TH from the 510; I don't. I'm sticking with what works for me*; you stick with what works for you. You're not wrong and I ain't either. TH is an inherently subjective, physiological (and psychological) experience. Now, if someone were to say that 510's vapor was poor, I'd tell them to clean their atty. That's pretty objective.

* To clarify: I am very open to trying new devices (as my budget permits). And please let me know if you find a 4.4V mod: it might be ideal for me.

Away..
Concerning the 510, you both may be righter than you think.

There are 2 ohm ranges of attys for them and they look identical.
It takes adequate flow and heat(power) to make vapor. Pure physics.
One atty is 2.3ohms. It produces 6 watts of heat and draws 1.5 amps.
The other is 3.2-3.4ohms. It produces 4 watts of heat and draws 1 amp.
Both are sold & used @ 3.7v.
That's 1/3 more heat and more vapor production, "possible throat hit" from more liquid vaporized. All at the expense of a battery in penstyles that is normally to small.

Food for thought.
