Hi all, I'm looking to make my own juices and I want to make everything myself. First of all is the food extracts or flavorings. I don't want to use alcohol so instead I'll be using PG/VG. What's the best percentages for knocking up extracts? I'm reading different examples like..... 3 parts PG and 1 part water, 100% PG, 100% VG or 3 parts VG and 1 part water. I haven't read anyone saying they've tried 50/50 PG/VG for extracts, can that work? Thanks.

You'd better ask you question in DIY subforum. Read stickies on DIY.

Of these three chemical alcohol is the best for extraction, but many do not like it in their vapes.
PG is the second best.
VG is often useless.
Water sometimes could be helpful. There are no universal solvent for flavorings.

Be careful. Read. You do not want to extract something that is not recommended for vaping. For example - no oils. And it easy to get oils in extracts, too many plants have a lot of them.

I've done a pretty decent batch of vanilla bean extract using pure PG as the solvent. Using whole, dried vanilla beans, I used a razor blade to place vertical slits along the length of about 20 beans and soaked them for about 2 weeks in a mason jar filled with PG, shaking the jar 2-3 times a day. It's still a work in progress for me to figure out the optimum ratio of beans/PG/soak-time, but my last batch worked out well for vanilla flavoring. I stayed away from adding water to the PG as a solvent out of concern for bacterial growth during the soaking process. From my research, PG has inherent anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, so I used straight PG and had no visual indications of fungus or mold growth over the 2 week extract soak. A Google search will produce a good number of links to folks who do extracts for a variety of purposes. You may wish to check some of those resources for hints and suggestions for safe and appropriate extract methods.

I make my own Vanilla Extracts for vaping as well. I use about 30mL PG per 3 beans with ¼ shot of vodka to enhance extraction.
